West Bengal Triumphs at 4th National Finswimming Championship

The 4th National Finswimming Championship 2024 concluded with remarkable performances by swimmers from across India. Held at the Syama Prasad Mookerjee Swimming Pool Complex, New Delhi, the three-day event saw 1500 participants from 26 States and Union Territories competing for glory. Organized by the Underwater Sports Federation of India (USFI) in association with the Physical Education Foundation of India, this championship showcased India's growing prowess in finswimming.
Team Standings
West Bengal: Crowned team champions with 151 medals (67 gold, 43 silver, 41 bronze).
Karnataka: Runners-up with 50 medals (17 gold, 18 silver, 15 bronze).
Uttarakhand: Third place with 21 medals (8 gold, 6 silver, 7 bronze).
Haryana: Fourth place, also with 21 medals (6 gold, 10 silver, 5 bronze), ranked lower due to fewer gold medals than Uttarakhand.
The chief guest, Dronacharya awardee hockey coach AK Bansal, presented the trophies and medals to the winners.

Mithali Raj Is Mentor for ACA Women's Cricket Operations

Former Indian women's cricket captain, Mithali Raj, was appointed as the Mentor of Women's Cricket Operations by the Andhra Cricket Association (ACA). Raj, who is widely regarded as one of the greatest female cricketers, signed a three-year contract with the ACA.
Her primary responsibility will be to scout and nurture young talent across the state, with a focus on developing the next generation of women cricketers.
Raj, who retired from international cricket in 2022, has long been an advocate for women's sports and will bring her extensive knowledge and expertise to her new role with the ACA.

Odisha Wins Maiden Gold in 14th Senior National Hockey Championship

Odisha emerged victorious at the 14th Hockey India Senior National Championship, defeating two-time champion Haryana 5-1 in the final held at the SDAT-Mayor Radhakrishnan Stadium, Chennai. This historic win marked Odisha's maiden gold medal in the tournament, with Shilanand Lakra stealing the show with an incredible hat-trick.
Odisha's head coach, Bijay Kumar Lakra, attributed the victory to the team's fitness and strategic execution.
For Haryana, this was their second consecutive loss in the final, having been defeated by Punjab in the previous edition.

Dubai Sports Council Appoint Harbhajan & Sania Mirza as Ambassadors

The Dubai Sports Council appointed four global sports icons as its Sports Ambassadors. This initiative aims to enhance Dubai's reputation as a global sports destination and strengthen its sports ecosystem by attracting prestigious international events, nurturing local talent, and promoting sports tourism.
The four ambassadors are Harbhajan Singh (Former Indian cricketer), Sania Mirza (Former Indian tennis player), Khabib Nurmagomedov (Russian UFC champion) and Patrice Evra (French footballer).
The appointments were made in the presence of Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, and Chairman of the Executive Council of Dubai Sports Council.

Jyothi Surekha Wins Gold, Abhishek Verma Takes Silver at GT Open 2024

At the GT Open 2024 in Luxembourg, India's Jyothi Surekha Vennam secured the gold in women's compound archery, defeating Sarah Prieels of Belgium with a 147-145 victory. Abhishek Verma, who shot a perfect 600 in qualifications, won silver in the men's competition after a shoot-off loss to Mike Schlosser. Both archers displayed exceptional skill.

Tata Steel Chess: Magnus Magic: Carlsen Completes Double

World No. 1 Magnus Carlsen completed a remarkable double at the Tata Steel Chess India tournament, clinching the blitz title with a round to spare.
Just days after securing the rapid title, the Norwegian maestro produced a scintillating performance, including a dramatic turnaround against Indian prodigy Arjun Erigaisi in the penultimate round, to reach an unassailable 12 points.
Carlsen capped off the tournament in style, defeating Vidit Gujrathi in the final round to finish with three consecutive wins and a total of 13 points to claim the blitz crown. This marks his second double victory in Kolkata, West Bengal, replicating his triumph from 2019.

Inspired by NASA's Voyager missions, the periodic table, and astronomical maps, it signifies a new chapter in the sport's history. Despite backlash over the tournament's expansion, FIFA envisions the trophy as a prestigious symbol for the future of club football.

India Refuses to Send Kabaddi Team to Pakistan

Just days after denying the Board of Control of Cricket in India (BCCI) permission to travel to Pakistan for the ICC Champions Trophy, the Indian government now refused to approve the Kabaddi federation's request to participate in a series of friendly games in Pakistan. The move reiterates India's stance on not participating in any sporting activity on Pakistan soil. The last time the Indian cricket team travelled to Pakistan was back in 2008 for the Asia Cup.
With how things stand, India's blind cricket team is also unlikely to travel to Pakistan for the World Cup to be held in Lahore and Multan in the last week of November.

Anshul Kamboj Scripts History, Picks 10 Wickets in an Innings

Haryana medium pacer Anshul Kamboj became only the third cricketer after Bengal's Premangsu Chatterjee (1956-57) and Rajasthan's Pradeep Sundaram (1985-86) to take all ten wickets in an innings in the Ranji Trophy.
Kamboj's performance also makes him just the sixth Indian bowler to secure a 10-wicket haul in First-Class cricket, joining the elite ranks of Anil Kumble, Subhash Gupte, and Debasis Mohanty, among others.
