Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Inaugurates Second Edition of National Ranking Table Tennis Championship
Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta inaugurated the second edition of the National Ranking Table Tennis Championship at Thyagaraj Stadium in the national capital.
The National Ranking Table Tennis Championship is a tournament organised by the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) for Indian players. The UTT National Rankings is taking place from September 7 to 14 at Delhi's Thyagaraj Stadium.
Carlos Alcaraz wins US Open Title
Carlos Alcaraz ended the reign of Jannik Sinner to capture the US Open title again and tighten his grip on the era-defining rivalry between the torch-bearers of the men's game.
In a perfect echo of the triumph that first propelled him to world number one in 2022, Alcaraz's 6-2 3-6 6-1 6-4 win took him back to the summit of the rankings, as the Spaniard displaced Sinner and increased his Grand Slam trophy haul to six.
The India Wins Asia Cup 2025 Title
The Indian men's hockey team was crowned Asia Cup 2025 champions after beating the Republic of Korea 4-1 in the final at the Rajgir Sports Complex in Bihar.
With the win, India ended its eight-year wait to regain the title and qualified for the FIH Hockey World Cup 2026 in the Netherlands and Belgium. This was India's fourth Asia Cup hockey win. Their last triumph came in 2017 in Dhaka.

Sakshi continued India's fine start to the World Boxing Championships, outclassing her Ukrainian opponent in the women's 54 kg category in the opening round in Liverpool.
Sakshi secured a win over her Ukrainian opponent by 5-0 via RSC (Referee Stopped Contest), as per the Boxing Federation of India (BFI).
Earlier, Pawan Bartwal provided India a winning start to their World Boxing Championships campaign as he got the better of Brazil's Michael Douglas Trindade, a Paris Olympian, in a close men's 55kg bout in Liverpool, UK.
India's Suruchi Singh Tops ISSF 10m Air Pistol Rankings
Young shooter from India, Suruchi Singh, became the World No. 1 in the women's 10m air pistol rankings, which was released by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF).
After making her senior international debut earlier this year, the 19-year-old Suruchi Singh achieved the No. 1 ranking in the 10m air pistol, having accumulated 4162 points.
Former junior world champion Yao Qianxun of the People's Republic of China took second spot in the category, having amassed 3195 points. China's Wei Qian is third with 2178 points.

The World Archery Championships were first held in 1931.
Exactly 500 archers from 74 countries and territories are vying for the tag of world champions in Gwangju.
This year's championships feature men's and women's events across team, mixed team and individual formats.

Veteran leg spinner Amit Mishra announced his retirement from all forms of cricket, bringing the curtains down on a professional career that spanned more than two decades.
Mishra played his last international in 2017 but remained active in domestic cricket and the IPL, most recently turning out for Lucknow Super Giants in 2024.

Assam Olympic Association Launches Bhogeswar Baruah National Sports Awards
The Assam Olympic Association (AOA) launched the Bhogeswar Baruah National Sports Award, honouring the legacy of Assam's first Asian Games gold medalist.
The inaugural awards were presented by Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways (MoPSW) and the President of AOA, Sarbananda Sonowal, and Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma at a ceremony in Guwahati.
Instituted in honour of Arjuna Awardee Bhogeswar Baruah, the award will be conferred annually in six categories--Best Sportsperson, Emerging Player, and Lifetime Achievement at both the national and Assam levels.

Mitchell Starc Retires from T20Is
Prolific Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc announced his immediate retirement from T20 international cricket, saying that he wanted to focus on his Test and ODI career.
Starc has played 65 matches for his country in the shortest format.
His 79 wickets in T20Is make him the second-highest for Australia after Adam Zampa.
New Delhi to Host BWF World Championships in August 2026
New Delhi will host the Badminton World Championships in August next year (2026). The announcement was made by the Badminton World Federation (BWF) during the closing ceremony of the 2025 Championships in Paris. The competition will return to India after 17 years and to Asia after 4 years. In 2009, the World Championships were held in Hyderabad. The last time an Asian city hosted the championships was in 2018, when it was held in China's Nanjing.
