Roger Federer Announces Retirement from Professional Tennis
Roger Federer will retire next week at the age of 41 after the Laver Cup in London, marking the end of one of the greatest ever sporting careers.
Federer, the former World No. 1, further confirmed that although the upcoming edition of the Laver Cup will be his final ATP tournament, he will continue to play tennis.
In 2003, Federer won his first grand slam title at the age of 21 at Wimbledon and within 14 months he had established his dominance. Between 2004 and 2007, at the height of his powers, he compiled a 247-15 (94%) record and methodically redefined what greatness in the men's game looked like.

Sikandar Raza, Tahlia McGrath Win ICC Player of the Month Award for August 2022
The International Cricket Council announced Zimbabwe batter Sikandar Raza and Australia all-rounder Tahlia McGrath as the Player of the Month for August in Men's and Women's cricket, respectively.
Raza claimed the ICC Men's Player of the Month award thanks to an unforgettable series of scores against Bangladesh and India in Harare across two ODI series.
Tahlia McGrath became the latest Australian star to receive the ICC Women's Player of the Month award after she paved the way for her country and claimed Commonwealth Gold in Birmingham.
Germany Wins First Davis Cup Tie against France in 84 Years
Germany grabbed their first Davis Cup victory over France since 1938 when Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz won the deciding doubles rubber in a tiebreaker in Hamburg.
The duo defeated Nicolas Mahut and Arthur Rinderknech 6-2 3-6 7-6(1) to secure a 2-1 win in their opening Group C tie. Australia beat Belgium 3-0 in the group's other tie.
Two teams from each of the four groups will advance to the knockout rounds in Malaga from November 22-27.

Robin Uthappa Announces Retirement from All Forms of Cricket
Former India opener Robin Uthappa announced his retirement from all forms of Indian cricket.
Uthappa played the 2004 Under-19 World Cup. He made his international debut two years later and featured in 46 ODIs and 13 T20Is for India.
The stylish batter was a part of the Indian side which lifted the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007 in South Africa. The batter from Karnataka has won two IPL trophies-- one for KKR and one for CSK in 2014 and 2021 respectively.
India Beat Nepal to Clinch SAFF U-17 Championship Title in Colombo
India clinched the SAFF under-17 Championship title, defeating Nepal 4-0 in the final in Colombo.
Boby Singh, Korou Singh, captain Vanlalpeka Guite, and Aman scored a goal each, to shape a resounding victory in India's favour. With this win, India retained the title.
In the group league, Nepal defeated India 3-1. However, in the final, India produced a clinical performance, and lifted the title for the fourth time.
India captain Vanlalpeka Guite was named the Most Valuable Player of the tournament, while goalkeeper Sahil won the Best Goalkeeper award.

Cabinet Approves Signing of Guarantees for FIFA U17 Women's World Cup
The Union Cabinet approved the signing of guarantees for hosting FIFA Under-17 Women's World Cup 2022 in India.
FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup 2022 is scheduled to be held in India between October 11 and 30.
The seventh edition of the biennial youth tournament will be the first-ever FIFA women's competition to be hosted by India.
An assistance of Rs. 10 crore would be given to the All India Football Federation (AIFF) for the field of play maintenance, stadium power, energy & cabling, stadia and training site branding etc.
Vinesh Phogat Wins Bronze in Women's 53kg in World Wrestling Championships
Vinesh Phogat became the first Indian woman wrestler to win two medals at the World Wrestling Championships as she clinched a bronze in 53kg by defeating Emma Jonna Malmgren of Sweden in Serbia.
Vinesh had also won a bronze in the 2019 edition in Nur-Sultan, Kazakhstan.
She had made it to the bronze play-off through the repechage round after losing to Khulan Batkhuyag of Mongolia, the 2022 Asian Championships silver medallist, in her first bout.
Vinesh, a triple Commonwealth Games champion, made it to the repechage round after Batkhuyag reached the final.
In the repechage round, Vinesh first beat Zhuldyz Eshimova of Kazakhstan in a Victory by Fall (4-0) decision and then won the next bout after her opponent Leyla Gurbanova of Azerbaijan did not turn up due to injury to advance to the bronze medal round.

Golden Slam for Golden Girls
Barbora Krejcikova and Katerina Siniakova completed the career 'Golden Slam' by winning the US Open women's doubles title. The pair fought back to beat unseeded Americans Caty McNally and Taylor Townsend 3-6 7-5 6-1 to pick up their sixth Grand Slam doubles title together. They won the Australian Open and Wimbledon this year but were unable to defend their French Open title due to Krejcikova's illness.
Alireza Firouzja Wins Sinquefield Cup & the Grand Chess Tour
Alireza Firouzja beat Ian Nepomniachtchi in play-offs to win the ninth edition of the Sinquefield Cup. Firouzja also grabbed an extra $100,000 for winning this year's Grand Chess Tour. The youngster came from winning the Saint Louis Rapid & Blitz Tournament a couple of weeks ago.
Alireza Firouzja is an Iranian-French chess grandmaster. Firouzja is the youngest ever 2800-rated player, beating the previous record set by Magnus Carlsen by more than five months. A chess prodigy, Firouzja won the Iranian Chess Championship at age 12 and earned the Grandmaster title at 14.
