Gravitational Waves Pioneer Dies

  • Ronald Drever, one of the architects behind the first detection of gravitational waves, has died aged 85.
  • Ronald Drever's role in the detection of gravitational waves was recognised in a stream of awards last year, including the Gruber, Breakthrough and Kavli Prizes.
  • He co-founded the LIGO project, and was a co-inventor of the Pound–Drever–Hall technique for laser stabilisation.

Evidence Revealing Mars' Water-rich History

  • Mars has been the number one target for astronomers and scientists when it comes to searching for life on other planets.
  • Researchers have come across evidence that could have implications for the possibility of life on the planet, saying that Mars may have been a wetter place than previously thought.
  • A new research reveals that a mineral found in Martian meteorites – which had been considered as proof of an ancient dry environment on Mars – may have originally been a hydrogen-containing mineral that could indicate a more water-rich history for the Red Planet.

Scientists Create Artificial Mouse Embryo

  • In a first, scientists have been able to create an artificial mouse embryo using 3D technology.
  • They have used a 3D scaffold and the body's master stem cells, an advance that may explain why more than two out of three human pregnancies fail.

Scientists Develop Electronic Rose Plant

  • Scientists have created a path-breaking system that has maybe surpassed their previous developments.
  • Scientists have transformed a rose into an 'electronic' plant, they have developed a super capacitor that may lead to systems harvesting energy from 'electronic plants' to power sensors.

Carbon Dioxide Converts into Fuel

  • Scientists have developed tiny nano particles that turned carbon dioxide into fuel using light.
  • As per researchers, carbon dioxide converts into methane, a key building block for many types of fuels, by using only ultraviolet light as an energy source.
  • After having found a catalyst that can do this important chemistry using ultraviolet light, researchers hope to develop a version that would run on natural sunlight, a potential boon to alternative energy.
