France in Fresh Political Crisis after MPs oust Prime Minister

France plunged into a new political crisis with the defeat of Prime Minister François Bayrou at a confidence vote in the National Assembly.
The defeat – by 364 votes to 194 – means that Bayrou will present his government's resignation to President Emmanuel Macron, who must now decide how to replace him.
The options include naming a new Prime Minister from the centre-right; pivoting to the left and finding a name compatible with the Socialist Party; and dissolving parliament so new elections are held.

Andrew Holness Wins Third Term as Jamaica's PM

Jamaican Prime Minister Andrew Holness won a rare third term in office after his Labour Party sailed to victory in Wednesday's election.
As per the Caribbean nation's electoral commission, the Labour Party won 34 seats, beating the opposition People's National Party (PNP), which secured 29 seats.
The PNP candidate, Mark Golding, conceded defeat.
Holness campaigned on a promise to lower the income tax rate from 25% to 15%, while Golding had said he would raise the income tax threshold.

Japan PM Shigeru Ishiba Resigns

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba announced his decision to step down, bowing to mounting pressure within the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) to take responsibility for back-to-back electoral setbacks, thus bringing an end to his 11-month tenure.
Ishiba assumed office last October (2024) and was resisting the calls to resign for weeks now.
He had warned that his departure could leave Japan facing a political vacuum at a time when the nation grapples with big challenges – including US tariffs, rising prices, rice policy reforms and growing regional tensions.
His resignation was announced one day before the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) was scheduled to decide on holding an early presidential election.

Nepal Bans 26 Unregistered Social Media Platforms

In a landmark digital policy move, the Government of Nepal has banned 26 unregistered social media platforms, including Facebook, WhatsApp, Instagram, YouTube, and X (formerly Twitter).
The decision, announced by Minister of Communications and Information Technology Prithvi Subba Gurung in September 2025, is aimed at enforcing digital accountability and ensuring regulatory compliance under Nepal's Directive for Regulation of Social Media Use, 2080.
