Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya Inaugurates Khelo India Multipurpose Hall in Arunachal Pradesh

  • In a boost to sports infrastructure in the Northeast, Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, Mansukh Mandaviya, inaugurated the Khelo India Multipurpose Hall in Kamle district of Arunachal Pradesh. State Ministers Kento Jini and Nyato Dukam were also present on the occasion.
  • Fully funded by Central Government, the Khelo India Multipurpose Hall has been built at a cost of Rs. 8 Crore. It aims to provide state-of-the-art infrastructure and training facilities to promote grassroots-level sports in the region.
  • Equipped with modern amenities, the hall will cater to multiple indoor sports including boxing, badminton, judo, wushu, karate, taekwondo, weightlifting, table tennis, and volleyball, enabling young athletes from the region to train professionally and compete at national and international levels.

Kalinga Super Cup Should be an Annual Event

  • Odisha Deputy Chief Minister Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo called for the Kalinga Super Cup to become a permanent fixture in the Indian football calendar, following the successful hosting of the tournament in Bhubaneswar.
  • Singh Deo lauded the efforts of the state administration in bringing a major national football event to Odisha.

Subhasish Bose Crowned AIFF Men's Player of the Year

  • Subhasish Bose and Soumya Guguloth were named the All India Football Federation (AIFF) Best Men's and Women's Players of the Year 2024-25 on the AIFF Awards Day in Bhubaneswar. The award function was held in the Odisha capital on the eve of the Kalinga Super Cup 2025 final.
  • Apart from Bose and Guguloth, the other individual award winners were Khalid Jamil (Best Men's Coach), Sujata Kar (Best Women's Coach), Vishal Kaith (Best Men's Goalkeeper), Elangbam Panthoi Chanu (Best Women's Goalkeeper), Brison Fernandes (Promising Men's Player), Toijam Thoibisana Chanu (Promising Women's Player), Venkatesh R (Best Male Referee), Tekcham Ranjita Devi (Best Female Referee), Vairamuthu P (Best Male Assistant Referee), and Riiohlang Dhar (Best Female Assistant Referee).

Lloyd Tennant Appointed as Ireland Women's Team Head Coach

  • Cricket Ireland announced Lloyd Tennant as Ireland Women's team head coach. Tennant will begin his tenure on June 1, replacing Ed Joyce.
  • Tennant is an ECB Level 4 qualified cricket coach with over 30 years of experience in coaching and developing international, regional and first-class cricketers and teams. He is also the former head coach of Central Sparks, a position he held for four years.

India Finish Second at the Inaugural Asian U-15 & U-17 Championships

  • Indian boxers wrapped up their campaign at the inaugural Asian U-15 & U-17 Championships in Amman, Jordan, adding four gold medals on the final day and finished second overall.
  • India's tally comprised 15 gold, 6 silver and 22 bronze medals, and placed them behind table-toppers Kazakhstan. Uzbekistan finished third.

  • The Dream League of India, a one-of-a-kind Tennis Cricket Ball League was launched in Delhi in a grand ceremony. The Dream League of India caters to both juniors (13-18) and seniors (18+), with six franchises participating across both categories.
  • Bollywood actor Sonu Sood was appointed as the Commissioner of the Dream League of India.

  • Manush Shah and Diya Chitale etched their names in history by clinching the mixed doubles title at the 2025 World Table Tennis (WTT) Contender Tunis. This remarkable achievement made them only the second Indian pair to win the mixed doubles title at a WTT Contender event, following the success of Manika Batra and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran in 2021.
  • The Indian duo of Manush Shah and Diya Chitale faced the Japanese pair of Sora Matsushima and Miwa Harimoto in the final.

Cricket, MMA Confirmed for Asian Games 2026 in Japan

  • Cricket was confirmed for the 20th edition of the Asian Games to be held in Japan next year (2026) from September 19 to October 4, the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) announced.
  • A press note on OCA's official website said that cricket and Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) were included in the competition.
  • Cricket has been a part of Asian Games for 2010, 2014 and 2022 editions.

Nat Sciver-Brunt Appointed England Women's Captain across All Formats

  • Nat Sciver-Brunt was appointed the new captain of the England women's side. She replaced Heather Knight, who stepped down after England's 2025 women's Ashes series following a near nine-year stint.
  • She will captain all three formats in tandem with newly appointed head coach Charlotte Edwards.
  • She has been a regular member of England's side since her debut in 2013 and is considered one of the most talented cricketers in the world.
