Kiran Choudhry Picked for RS Vice-Chiefs' Panel

  • Senior Haryana leader Kiran Choudhry, who switched camps from the Congress to the BJP, was included in the prestigious panel of vice-chairpersons of the Rajya Sabha.
  • Vice-President (V-P) and Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar announced the reconstituted panel of vice-chairpersons for the 266th session of the Rajya Sabha, naming Choudhry and Congress leader Ajay Maken among the new members.
  • The V-P retained S. Phangnon Konyak (first woman to be elected member of the Rajya Sabha from Nagaland in April 2022) and renowned athlete PT Usha.
  • BJP's Mamata Mohanta, Ghanshyam Tiwari and Bhubaneswar Kalit; BJD's Sasmit Patra and Congress' Ajay Makan were also included in the reconstituted committee.

Union Cabinet Approves Launch of National Mission on Natural Farming

  • The Union Cabinet approved the launch of the National Mission on Natural Farming, with a total outlay of Rs. 2481 crore as a standalone Centrally Sponsored Scheme.
  • The mission will promote natural farming in a mission mode across the country. The scheme has a total outlay of Rs. 2481 crore (Government of India share - Rs. 1584 crore; State share - Rs. 897 crore ($106 million) till the 15th Finance Commission (2025-26).
  • The Mission is designed to support farmers to reduce the input cost of cultivation and their dependency on externally purchased inputs. Natural farming will build and maintain healthy soil ecosystems, promote biodiversity and encourage diverse cropping systems to enhance resilience as suitable to the local agroecology are the benefits of natural farming.

Second Round of Tiprasa Accord Discussions on December 3

  • Three months after the initial round of discussions regarding the implementation of the tripartite Tiprasa accord, TIPRA Motha announced that the second round of talks is scheduled for December 3.
  • The Tiprasa accord was signed by the ruling alliance partner TIPRA Motha, the Centre, and the state government of Tripura to find an honourable solution for the issues faced by the state's tribal population.

G. Balasubramanian Appointed as High Commissioner to Maldives

  • G. Balasubramanian, a distinguished Indian Foreign Service (IFS) officer from the 1998 batch, was appointed as the next High Commissioner of India to Maldives. With extensive diplomatic experience spanning key global postings, his appointment underscores India's strategic emphasis on strengthening its ties with the Maldives, a crucial partner in the Indian Ocean Region.
  • He replaces Munu Mahawar, who has held the post since November 2021.

Hemant Soren to Take Oath as Jharkhand CM for Third Time

  • Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader Hemant Soren, following several hours of deliberations with his INDIA bloc allies, announced that he was chosen as the leader of the House and would take oath as Chief Minister.
  • Soren, who presided over a meeting of INDIA bloc leaders from the JMM, the Congress, the RJD and the CPI (ML), later reached Raj Bhavan to stake a claim to form a JMM-led government for the third time — a first in Jharkhand's 24-year history.
  • The JMM-led alliance won 56 of the 81 seats in the Assembly elections.

PM Inaugurate ICA Global Cooperative Conference 2024

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated ICA Global Cooperative Conference 2024 and launched the UN International Year of Cooperatives 2025 at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi.
  • ICA Global Cooperative Conference and ICA General Assembly is organised in India for the first time in the 130 year long history of International Cooperative Alliance (ICA), the premier body for the Global Cooperative movement. The Global Conference, hosted by Indian Farmers Fertiliser Cooperative Limited (IFFCO), in collaboration with ICA and Government of India, and Indian Cooperatives AMUL and KRIBHCO will be held from November 25 to 30, 2024.
  • The theme of the conference, "Cooperatives Build Prosperity for All," aligns with the Indian Government's vision of "Sahkar Se Samriddhi" (Prosperity through Cooperation).
  • The UN International Year of Cooperatives 2025, which focuses on the theme, "Cooperatives Build a Better World," underscores the transformative role cooperatives play in promoting social inclusion, economic empowerment, and sustainable development.

Shivraj Singh Chouhan Launches Nayi Chetna 3.0 - Pahal Badlaav Ki, A National Campaign Against Ge...

  • Union Minister of Rural Development and Agriculture & Farmers' Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched the third edition of Nayi Chetna – Pahal Badlaav Ki, a national campaign against gender-based violence in New Delhi. Union Minister of Women and Child Development Annpurna Devi also graced the event in a collective effort of the government to eliminate gender-based violence.
  • The month-long campaign, organised by the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) under the aegis of the Ministry of Rural Development, will run across the country until December 23.
  • This initiative embodies the spirit of Jan Andolan.
  • The objectives of the campaign include raising awareness of all forms of gender-based violence, encouraging communities to speak out and demand action, providing access to support systems for timely assistance and empowering local institutions to act decisively against violence.

Gwalior Unveils India's First Self-Sufficient Gaushala with a State-of-the-Art CBG Plant

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated India's first modern, self-sufficient gaushala in Laltipara, Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. The gaushala, named Adarsh Gaushala, houses a state-of-the-art Compressed Bio-Gas (CBG) plant, marking a major milestone in India's journey toward achieving sustainable development and promoting green energy solutions. This project reflects Modi's vision of turning "Waste to Wealth", highlighting how organic waste can be transformed into valuable resources.
  • The Adarsh Gaushala is operated by the Gwalior Municipal Corporation and is home to over 10,000 cattle. It stands out as a self-reliant model, utilising cattle dung and organic waste to generate compressed biogas and organic manure.

  • The 6th ASEAN-India Trade in Goods Agreement (AITIGA) Joint Committee and related meetings for discussions on the review of the AITIGA were held from 15 to 22 November, 2024 in Vanijya Bhawan, New Delhi. The AITIGA Joint Committee met for 2 days from 21 to 22 November, 2024 and the meeting was co-chaired by Additional Secretary, Department of Commerce, India, Rajesh Agrawal, and Deputy Secretary General (Trade), Ministry of Investment, Trade & Industry, Malaysia, Ms. Mastura Ahmad Mustafa.
  • The leads and delegates from all 10 ASEAN countries viz. Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Lao PDR, Malaysia, Myanmar, Philippines, Singapore, Thailand & Vietnam participated in the meeting.

Pabitra Margherita Inaugurates Diamond Jubilee Celebrations of World Crafts Forum

  • Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) and Development Commissioner of Handicrafts, in collaboration with the World Crafts Council (WCC) organised the inaugural edition of the World Crafts Forum 2024 at New Delhi. Scheduled from November 22 to 24 in New Delhi, followed by Srinagar from November 25 to 27, this event commemorates the 60th anniversary of the pioneering global crafts movement led by World Crafts Council International.
  • The Diamond Jubilee celebrations of World Crafts Forum was inaugurated by Minister of State for the Ministry of Textiles Pabitra Margherita.

Centre Releases 15th Finance Commission Grant for Rural Local Bodies in Karnataka

  • The Centre released the first instalment of the 15th Finance Commission grants for FY 2024-25 to the rural local bodies (RLBs) in Karnataka, the Union Panchayati Raj Ministry said.
  • The funds are meant for all the 5,949 eligible gram panchayats in the state.
  • The grants will be utilised by the RLBs for location-specific requirements under the 29 subjects enshrined in the 11th Schedule of the Constitution, except for salaries and other establishment costs.

Bihar Cabinet Approves Rs. 225 crore for 'Mahila Samwad' Programme

  • The Bihar Cabinet gave its nod for allocation of Rs. 225 crore for 'Mahila Samwad', an ambitious programme under which CM Nitish Kumar, ministers and top officials would visit districts to inform women about the ongoing policies of the state government for their empowerment.
  • As per reports, the interaction programme will be held at district and block level with the chief minister, likely to attend a number of these, while his cabinet colleagues and top officials would chip in at other places.
