Uttarakhand: Observatory to Monitor Space Activity

India's first commercial space observatory will be set up in the Garhwal division of Uttarakhand. Digantara, a startup started in the field of space, will build this laboratory. This observatory will monitor the 10 cm size of microscopic particles moving in the space around the Earth. This space situational awareness observatory will help in monitoring space waste and military satellites hovering in space around the Earth.

India's first electric double-decker bus 'Switch EiV 22'

Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari recently launched India's first AC double-decker electric bus named 'Switch EiV 22' developed by Ashok Leyland in Mumbai. The bus can gain a 100km of range with just a 45min charge, while a full charge takes 80 minutes and has a Nickel, Manganese and Cobalt (NMC) battery that comes with an 8-year warranty.

NASA's Moon landing sites for Artemis III mission

NASA is in full preparation to send its astronauts to moon again. The US space agency is currently focusing on the launch of its Artemis I rocket which is scheduled to be launched on August 29, 2022. This rocket is moved to the launch pad for final preparation. Amid all these happenings, NASA has now identified multiple potential landing sites for Artemis III, which will be the first mission to bring crew to the lunar surface, including the first woman to set foot on the Moon.

NASA's Moon Rocket Moved to Launch Pad for 1st Test Flight

NASA's new moon rocket arrived at the launch pad ahead of its debut flight in less than two weeks.
NASA is aiming for an Aug. 29 liftoff for the lunar test flight. No one will be inside the crew capsule atop the rocket, just three mannequins — test dummies swarming with sensors to measure radiation and vibration.
The capsule will fly around the moon in a distant orbit for a couple weeks, before heading back for a splashdown in the Pacific. The entire flight should last six weeks.
The flight is the first moonshot in NASA's Artemis program. The space agency is aiming for a lunar-orbiting flight with astronauts in two years and a lunar landing by a human crew as early as 2025.

Tasmanian Tiger: Scientists Hope to Revive Marsupial from Extinction

The Tasmanian tiger has been extinct since 1936. But, chances are, it won't remain extinct for too long. Scientists from the US and Australia are embarking on a multi-million dollar project to bring the animal back. The researchers say that the tiger can be brought back using stem cells and gene-editing technology. According to them, the creature officially known as a thylacine could be reintroduced to the wild in 10 years.
The scientists plan to recreate the creature by taking stem cells from a living marsupial species with similar DNA and then using gene-editing technology to "bring back" the extinct species. If successful, they will create an animal of extremely close approximation of the thylacine. The revival of the Tasmanian tiger would mark the first de-extinction event in history.

First 3D-Printed Human Cornea in India Developed by LVPEI, CCMB and IIT Hyderabad

For the first time in India, researchers in the city have successfully 3D-printed an artificial cornea and transplanted it into a rabbit eye.
Researchers from L V Prasad Eye Institute (LVPEI), Indian Institute of Technology-Hyderabad (IIT-H), and the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB), have collaborated to develop a 3D-printed cornea from the human donor corneal tissue.
Developed indigenously through government and philanthropic funding, the product is completely natural, contains no synthetic components, is free of animal residues and is safe to use in patients.
