Karnataka to Launch 'State Health Register' of all Citizens

Karnataka government on May 27, 2020 announced that it will be launching a new project to maintain a 'State Health Register' comprising the database of all its citizens.
The health register, first-of-its-kind, will be a robust and standardized health repository of all the citizens of the state.
Elaborating on the same, Karnataka's Medical Education Minister K Sudhakar stated that the COVID-19 experience has demonstrated the need to maintain a robust, real-time repository of health data of each and every citizen.
The project will be first launched in Chikkaballapur district of Karnataka on an experimental basis.

Uttar Pradesh Govt to Develop 800 km Roads as Herbal Roads

Deputy Chief Minister and PWD minister of the state Keshav Prasad Maurya told that these herbal roads will have trees like like Peepal, Neem, Sehjan along with other herb varieties like Brahmi, Ashvagandha and Jatrofa.
Uttar Pradesh government will develop 800 km roads as Herbal roads in the state. These herbal roads will have medicinal and herbal trees along with the land on their both sides.
He said that these plants will provide raw material for the medicines and will also help in curbing the erosion of land. He stressed that this scheme will help both development and beautification and bring medicinal benefits along with promoting bio diversity.

Kargil's First Solar Lift Irrigation Plant Inaugurated

In Ladakh, Director of Animal, Sheep Husbandry and Fisheries Dr Mohammad Raza inaugurated the first Solar Lift Irrigation Plant of Kargil with five KW Solar Plant and three HP Submersible Pump at Yak Breeding Farm, Bodh Kharboo keeping in view the protocols of social distancing and Standard Operating Prcedures.
Chief Animal Husbandry Officer, Kargil Dr Fida Hussain said that Yak Breeding Farm, Bodh Kharboo has an allotment under special package of 1.20 crore rupees by the Government of India under Rashtriya Gokul Mission (RGM) and this Solar Irrigation Pump will help in proper utilization of this fund in the Farm.

State Amends FRA to Clear More Claims on Forest Land

The notification issued on May, 2020, stated that the Governor of Maharashtra Bhagat Singh Koshyari has made certain modifications in Section 6 of the Scheduled Tribes and Other Traditional Forest Dwellers (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2006, (also called as Forest Rights Act-FRA) in its application to the Scheduled Areas of the State of Maharashtra, by exercising the powers conferred upon him by Schedule V of the Constitution.
Purpose of modifications- Modification is to provide justice to the tribals whose Individual Forest rights or Community Forest rights have been rejected by the District Level Committee(DLC) constituted under FRA.
As per the modification a provision has been incorporated to enable rightful claimants of the forest rights to appeal against the Order of the DLC.

World Gold Council (WGC) Report Released

A World Gold Council (WGC) report said that there is an ample scope for retail demand of gold jewellery in the country as around 37 per cent of Indian women have never bought gold but would consider purchasing in the future.
The World Gold Council's 'Retail Gold Insights: India Jewellery' report also noted that 60 per cent of the Indian women already own gold jewellery and it is the second most popular item among 'fashion and lifestyle' shoppers, preceded only by designer clothes and silk sarees.

Uttarakhand Forest Fire

Indian state of Uttarakhand has been burning since 4 days, as per individual accounts on social media.
People took to social media, revealing pictures of the Uttarakhand forest fires, to bring attention to the tragedy facing the hill state amid coronavirus outbreak.
As per the information available, different regions of Uttarakhand witnessed the outbreak of wildfires.
Over 50 hectares of land have already been destroyed by the forest fires.

India Combats Locust Attack Amid Covid-19 Pandemic

An invasion by desert locusts has hit large swathes of India and Pakistan in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic.
Large and aggressive swarms of these crop-devouring short-horned insects have invaded more than two dozen districts covering more than 50,000 hectares of desert areas of western India. Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat are the worst affected states.
In neighbouring Pakistan, authorities declared a nationwide emergency in February, 2020 saying locust numbers were the worst in more than two decades.

Nitin Gadkari Inaugurates the breakthrough Event of Chamba Tunnel under Chardham Pariyojana

Union Minister for Road Transport & Highways and MSMEs Nitin Gadkari inaugurated the breakthrough event of Chamba Tunnel under Chardham Pariyojana through video conference mode.
Border Roads Organisation (BRO) achieved this major milestone by digging up a 440 m long Tunnel below the busy Chamba town on Rishikesh-Dharasu road Highway (NH 94).
This Rishikesh-Dharasu-Gangotri road in Uttarakhand has a very significant role from socio economic and religious point of view.

In a First, Uttarakhand Releases Report on Conservation of Endemic, Threatened Floras

Uttarakhand has become the first state to release a unique report highlighting its conservation efforts to save over 1,100 rare plants from extinction.
Herbs like 'Ashwagandha', 'Giloy', 'Kalmegh' and 'Chitrak', which are presently part of scientists'' research to find a possible cure to coronavirus, are included in this conservation programme.
As many as 1,145 plant species have been conserved out of which 46 species are endemic to Uttarakhand and 68 species are rare, endangered or threatened, under red list of the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) or under state biodiversity board, under this project by the research wing of the state forest department.

Former SC Judge Justice Sikri Inaugurates Indian Dispute Resolution Centre

Former Supreme Court judge Justice A K Sikri has inaugurated the Indian Dispute Resolution Centre (IDRC), which provides a paperless dispute resolution environment.
The e-inauguration of IDRC centre offers offline as well as e-alternate dispute resolution (ADR) facility through its state-of-the-art e-arbitration, e-meditation and e-conciliation software portal.
The e-inauguration was followed by a panel discussion on ''Adhoc v. Institutional Dispute Resolution''.

Mizoram Grants 'Industry' Status to Sports

The northeastern state of Mizoram has accorded 'industry' status to sports.
The Cabinet cleared the Sports and Youth Service department's proposal to recognise sports as an 'industry' in the state.
Mizoram is known for its love for sports — especially football which is played competitively through the Mizoram Premier League, the state's highest football league.
Through the new status, the government hopes to commercialise sporting endeavours and woo investors.

RITES Signs Pact to Acquire 24% Stake in Indian Railway Station Development

State-owned RITES Ltd has signed an agreement to buy 24% stake in Indian Railway Station Development Corp. Ltd, (IRSDC), the company tasked with redeveloping railway stations across the country.
RITES has also resumed operations at most of its offices and project sites after the government eased the covid-19 induced lockdown rules across the country.
It has achieved more than half of its capacity and will scale up its activities going forward.

IMD Launches Weather Services in UMANG App

Seven services hosted on website of Indian Metrological Department, IMD have been onboarded to UMANG application.
These services are Current Weather, Nowcast, City Forecast, Rainfall Information, Tourism Forecast, Warnings, Cyclone.
The Unified Mobile Application for New-age Governance, UMANG, is a unified, multi-channel, multi-platform, multi-lingual, multi-service mobile app.
