Union Cabinet approves ordinance to create 'One India, One Agriculture Market'
The Union Cabinet on June 3, 2020 approved an ordinance that will pave the way for the creation of 'One India, One Agriculture Market'. The cabinet was chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The ordinance is titled Farming Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Ordinance, 2020. It aims to set up an ecosystem where farmers and traders both have the freedom of choice of sale and purchase of agricultural produce.
The Cabinet decision was announced by Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare, Narendra Singh Tomar.
SC Dismisses Andhra Pradesh Plea to Allow Party Colors on Govt Buildings
The Supreme Court dismissed the Andhra Pradesh government's plea challenging a high court order to remove the ruling political party's colours from government buildings.
The apex court bench headed by Justice L Nageswara Rao and comprising Krishan Murari and S Ravindra Bhat heard the case through video conferencing and rejected the appeal filed by YSR Congress Party.

Cabinet Approves Renaming of Kolkata Port Trust as Syama Prasad Mookerjee Port Trust
The Union Cabinet approved the renaming of Kolkata Port Trust as Syama Prasad Mukherjee Port Trust.
The Prime Minister had announced the renaming of Kolkata Port Trust after Syama Prasad Mukherjee at a function to mark the 150th-anniversary celebrations of the port trust.
Syama Prasad Mukherjee was an Indian politician, barrister and academician, who served as the Minister for Industry and Supply in Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru's cabinet.
SWADES Initiative
The Indian Government will conduct a skill mapping exercise under SWADES initiative to map the skills of the Indian workers returning from overseas. SWADES stands for Skilled Workers Arrival Database for Employment Support.
The SWADES initiative, which began under the Vande Bharat Mission, aims to create a database of qualified Indian citizens based on their experience and skillsets. The database can then be refered to fulfil the demand of Indian and foreign companies.
The maximum number of Indian returnees have been from the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait. They were primarily employed in sectors including oil and gas, automotive, aviation, tourism, hospitality, IT and ITeS and construction.

Three More States Included in One Nation One Ration Card Scheme
Three more states have been included in One Nation, One Ration Card scheme. These are Odisha, Sikkim and Mizoram. Consumer Affairs Minister Ram Vilas Paswan announced the inclusion of these states in the scheme on Integrated Management of Public Distribution System.
Under this system, nation-wide portability of the benefits under National Food Security Act through One Nation, One Ration Card plan is implemented to enable the NFSA ration card holders to lift their entitled quota of subsidized food grains from any e-PoS enabled Fair Price Shop of their choice anywhere in the country, by using the existing and same ration card after Aadhaar authentication.
The facility is enabled in 17 States and UTs so far.
India Launches National AI Portal for all to Promote AI Development in the Count
The Indian government announced the National Artificial Intelligence (AI) Portal, developed jointly by the National e-Governance Division of the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and the National Association of Software and Service Companies (Nasscom).
The portal is meant to work as a "one stop digital platform" for all AI related developments in India.
The minister also announced the Responsible AI for Youth Programme, which is aimed at imparting education and skills in AI to students in government schools.

Govt launched India's National Artificial Intelligence Portal
Ravi Shankar Prasad, the Union Minister of IT, electronics; communications, and law and justice launched a dedicated portal for Artificial Intelligence (AI) on May 30, 2020. The day marked the first anniversary of the second tenure of the central government.
The portal aims to aid the development of solutions based on Artificial Intelligence (AI). It will act as a one-stop digital platform for AI-related developments in India, investment funds in AI, sharing resource details of startups, companies, and educational institutions related to AI in India.
The Ministry of Electronics and IT and IT Industry body NASSCOM has jointly developed India's national Artificial Intelligence Portal called www.ai.gov.in.

India Observatory Launches GIS-Enabled Dashboard, CoAST India
India Observatory, an open-source database, launched a GIS-enabled dashboard, CoAST India (Collaboration/Covid Action Support Group) in collaboration with Anand-based Forest Ecological Security (FES) as its main nodal point, to help administrators, civil society organisations & volunteers to plan urgent steps to get the stranded migrant population to safety & care.
The dashboard provides a repository of migrants data & requirements linked to the relevant service providers.
It also visualises facilities like schools & hospitals, road networks, relief camps, quarantine centers & healthcare workers.
Goa Celebrates Statehood Day
Goa celebrates its statehood day on 30th May. It was on this day in 1987 Goa became the 25th state of the Indian Union.
It was a Union Territory along with Daman and Diu from December 1961 onwards when Goa was liberated from the colonial rule.
Once Goa was liberated there was a controversy regarding merging Goa with the neighbouring state of Maharashtra or Mysore.
However, an opinion poll of 1967 suggested that Goa, Daman, and Diu be Union Territory.
