A Japanese firm has developed a technology to enable users to display their spoken words on a tablet or a smartphone by dragging their finger on the screen.
Mitsubishi Electric has combined touch-technology and voice recognition to develop an application that helps to overcome hearing disabilities and linguistic barriers.
To use this technology, which is supported on Android platforms, one needs to press down on the screen for a while before running a finger along the surface while speaking.
When the screen is pressed twice, the system analyses the written text, and can even read it aloud or translate it in 10 different languages.

Portable Device that Can Detect Ebola
Researchers have developed a low-cost and portable diagnostic device that can be used to detect Ebola infection and many other diseases.
The device could be particularly useful to monitor endemic, epidemic and pandemic disease outbreaks in resource-limited developing countries that need portable diagnostic equipment that functions outside the hospital.

Longest-lasting Solar Eclipse
Astronomers have discovered an unnamed pair of stars that sets a new record for both the longest duration stellar eclipse (3.5 years) and longest period between eclipses (69 years) in a binary system.
The newly discovered system is known as TYC 2505-672-1.
The previous record holder was Epsilon Aurigae, a giant star that is eclipsed by its companion every 27 years for periods ranging from 640 to 730 days.

Jupiter-like Planets Discovered
Scientists have discovered five new Jupiter-like planets that are similar in characteristics to Jupiter.
The newly discovered planets were designated as: WASP-119 b, WASP-124 b, WASP-126 b, WASP-129 b and WASP-133 b.
The orbital periods of the planets vary from 2.17 to 5.75 days and their masses range from 0.3 to 1.2 the mass of Jupiter, with radii between 1 to 1.5 Jupiter radius.

World's First Artificial Kidney
In a first-of-its kind medical device, a team of US nephrologists has developed an implantable artificial kidney using microchip filters and living kidney cells that will be powered by a patient\'s own heart to help patients.
Nephrologists are creating a bio-hybrid device that can mimic a kidney to remove enough waste products, salt and water to keep a patient off dialysis.
The key to the device is a microchip. It\'s a silicon nanotechnology. It uses the same processes that were developed by the microelectronics industry for computers.
