ISRO's First Mission to Study the Sun

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) plans to study the Sun through its Aditya-L1 satellite which will be inserted in a halo orbit, which is 1.5 million km from the Earth during 2019-2020.
Aditya-L1 will be launched by PSLV-XL from Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. The satellite will carry six payloads with enhanced science scope and objectives to ensure a detailed study of the Sun.

India's First Manned Space Mission

As per PM Narendra Modi, an Indian astronaut will go on a space odyssey by 2022 on board.
Chandrayaan-1 was India's first lunar probe. It was launched by the Indian Space Research Organisation in October 2008.
The Mars Orbiter Mission (MOM), also called Mangalyaan, is a space probe orbiting Mars since September 24, 2014.

India's Second Lunar Mission

As per reports, India will launch its second lunar mission on January 3 next year which will land on the moon with a lander and rover.
The Rs 800-crore lunar mission named "Chandrayaan-2" comes over a decade after India went up to the lunar orbit on November 8, 2008 after the "Chandrayaan-1" launch on October 22 onboard a Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) rocket from the spaceport in Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh.

Parker Solar Probe's Journey Begins

NASA launched its ambitious Parker Solar Probe a day later than it was scheduled to after multiple checks exhausted the launch window.
The Parker probe is expected to come within 6.16 million km (3.83 mn miles) of the sun, the closest a spacecraft has ever got to the star.
The mission will last 6 years and 11 months, and in that time the Parker probe will orbit the sun 24 times.

Reflecting Sun's Rays

  • According to new research, proposals to combat climate change by reflecting the sun's rays back into space would cause widespread crop failure, cancelling out any benefits to farming from the reduction in warming.
  • By examining the effects of volcanic eruptions on agriculture - which has a similar effect to proposed artificial methods of scattering solar radiation through aerosols - scientists have concluded that such methods could have unintended consequences.
