NASA's Parker Solar Probe has clinched the record for closest approach to the sun by a man-made object.
The spacecraft passed the current record of 26.55 million miles from the sun's surface as calculated by the Parker Solar Probe team.
The previous record for closest solar approach was set by the German-American Helios 2 spacecraft in April 1976.
End of Kepler Space Telescope
NASA's legendary Kepler space telescope has run out of fuel needed for further science operations, bringing an end to a nine-year mission, in which it discovered over 2,600 intriguing exoplanets.
The unmanned space telescope launched in 2009 leaves a legacy of more than 2,600 planet discoveries from outside our solar system, many of which could be promising places for life.

End of Chemotherapy
A landmark new study claims that each human cell has an embedded killer code whose natural function is to destroy cancerous cells.
The research elaborates that a "Kill Code" is embedded in large protein-coding ribonucleic acids (RNAs) and in small RNAs, called microRNAs, which scientists estimate evolved more than 800 million years ago in part to protect the body from cancer.

World's First Bio-brick
Researchers from University of Cape Town (UCT) in South Africa have developed the world's first bio-brick grown from human urine, an advance with significant consequences for waste recycling and up- cycling.
The bio-bricks are created through a natural process called microbial carbonate precipitation.

Aloe Vera Used to Remove Oil from Water
A team from IIT Guwahati has for the first time used a naturally occurring material, aloe vera gel, which inherently has superior oil repelling (oleophobic) property to separate oil from water. So far researchers have only been mimicking the structure of naturally existing materials such as fish scales to achieve super oleophobicity. While conventionally the topography and chemistry of materials had to optimised to make them repel oil extremely, the use of aloe vera gel-based coating modified with some molecules was sufficient to make the surface of substrates extremely oil repelling.

Chandrayaan-2 Lander
Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully conducted a scaled-down test for the soft and safe landing of its Chandrayaan-2 lander for India's second moon mission.
The moon lander, Vikram, named after the father of Indian space programme Vikram Sarabhai, is crucial to carry out various tests on the moon surface.
