More than 800 Dark Galaxies Found

  • After analysing data obtained, astronomers have discovered 854 ultra dark galaxies filled with mysterious dark matter in the Coma Cluster, one of the richest cluster of galaxies containing thousands of systems.
  • These galaxies are dark because they lost the gas needed to create new stars during or after their largely unknown formation process, billions of years ago.
  • The discovery of 47 dark galaxies was a surprising find in 2014 and the discovery of more than 800 suggests galaxy clusters as the key environment for the evolution of these mysterious dark galaxies.

Lakes' Found on Saturn's moon Titan

  • A study using data from the joint NASA and the European Space Agency (ESA) Cassini mission suggests the Saturn moon Titan's surface indentation that is similar to creation of sinkholes on the Earth.
  • Apart from the Earth, Titan is the only body in the solar system known to possess surface lakes and seas.

Pyramid-like Structure Spotted on Mars

  • NASA's Curiosity rover has found a pyramid-like structure on the Red Planet.
  • This image that bears an uncanny resemblance to the Great Pyramid in Egypt was captured by Mastcam: Right on-board NASA's Mars rover Curiosity.
  • Estimated to be the size of a small car, it could also be the capstone of a much larger pyramid buried beneath the Martian sand.

First Humanoid Robot in Space Wins Invention Award

  • Robonaut 2, the first humanoid robot in space that can work alongside astronauts during spacewalks has been selected as the NASA Invention of the Year for 2014.
  • The robot was chosen from among many other valuable innovations by the NASA Invention and Contributions Board.
  • R2 was evaluated in the following areas: Aerospace Significance, Industry Significance, Humanitarian Significance, Technology Readiness Level, NASA Use, Industry Use and Creativity.

NASA's Hubble finds formative years of quasars

  • By using Hubble Space Telescopes infrared vision, astronomers have uncovered the mysterious early formative years of quasars, the brightest objects in the universe.
  • Hubble’s sharp images unveil the chaotic collisions of galaxies that fuel quasars by feeding supermassive central black holes with gas.
  • The observations tell that the peak of quasar activity in the early universe was driven by galaxies colliding and then merging together.

Meet 'Pepper', World's First Robot that will 'Love' You Back

  • Named Pepper, the adorable emotional android has a range of moods that are based on humans' raging hormones, and acts just like real a person.
  • Pepper, who "creepily" also takes pictures its owner to reflect on their time together at night, has been priced at 1,000 pounds.

Spiral Galaxy`s Supermassive Black Hole Weighed for First Time

  • Scientists have for the first time measured the precise mass of a black hole at center of distant spiral galaxy.
  • In a new proof-of-concept observation, astronomers used the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array (ALMA) to measured the mass of the supermassive black hole at the center of NGC 1097, a barred spiral galaxy located approximately 45 million light-years away in the direction of the constellation Fornax.
