In a first-of-its kind medical device, a team of US nephrologists has developed an implantable artificial kidney using microchip filters and living kidney cells that will be powered by a patient\'s own heart to help patients.
Nephrologists are creating a bio-hybrid device that can mimic a kidney to remove enough waste products, salt and water to keep a patient off dialysis.
The key to the device is a microchip. It\'s a silicon nanotechnology. It uses the same processes that were developed by the microelectronics industry for computers.

New Way to Make Nanowire Laser
Researchers from the US have found a new way to produce nanoscale wires, with diametres as small as 200 nanometres.
The researchers have developed a simple chemical-dipping solution process to produce a self-assembled blend of nanoscale crystals, plates and wires composed of cesium, lead and bromine.
The same chemical blend, with a molecular architecture composed of cube-like crystal structures, has proven effective in an emerging wave of new designs for high-efficiency solar cells.

Goodbye Philae!
As per reports, it is time has come to say good bye to the Philae lander, which touched down on the surface of comet 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko in November 2014.
The robotic lander has not called home since its last call to mothership Rosetta seven months ago.
The lander is facing conditions on the comet from which it is unlikely to recover.
The chances for Philae to contact our team at our lander control centre are unfortunately getting close to zero.

First Direct Evidence of Gravitational Waves
In a landmark discovery that may open a new chapter in quest to understand the cosmos, scientists have succeeded in detecting gravitational waves, or ripples in space-time.
The researchers have detected gravitational waves coming from two black holes - that orbited one another, spiraled inward and smashed together.
The scientific milestone was achieved using a pair of giant laser detectors in the United States, located in Louisiana and Washington state, capping a long quest to confirm the existence of these waves.
World's Most Accurate Clock
Experts from the Physikalisch-Technische Bundesanstalt (PTB) have built the most accurate timepiece on Earth, achieving unprecedented levels of accuracy with a new atomic clock.
Dubbed as optical single-ion clock, the device works by measuring the vibrational frequency of ytterbium ions as they oscillate back and forth hundreds of trillions times per second between two different energy levels.
The accuracy now achieved with the ytterbium clock is approximately a hundred times better than that of the best cesium clocks.

Hidden Galaxies Discovered
A team of astronomers has discovered hundreds of hidden galaxies behind our own galaxy, the Milky Way.
The discovery may help to explain the Great Attractor region, which appears to be drawing the Milky Way and hundreds of thousands of other galaxies towards.
The team found 883 galaxies, a third of which had never been seen before.
