World's First Plant-eating Marine Reptile

A bizarre crocodile-sized hammerhead creature, that lived 242 million years ago, may have been the earliest known example of a plant-eating marine reptile.
The fossil, discovered in 2014, has a poorly preserved head, but seems to have a flamingo-like beak. As per scientists, the beak is actually part of a hammerhead-shaped jaw apparatus, which it used to feed on plants on the ocean floor.
The reptile's name is Atopodentatus.
This discovery solves the mystery of the strange-toothed animal, and also provides an example of the first herbivorous marine reptile.

World's Longest Insect

Scientists claim to have found the world's longest insect in south China.
Reports say that the length of the insect is 62.4 centimetres, which beats the previous record holder which was 56.7 cm long.
The finding breaks the record for length for all 807,625 insects discovered so far.

New Species of Mouse Lemurs Discovered

An international team of scientists has discovered three new species of mouse lemurs, the smallest primates in the world.
Mouse lemurs, like all other lemurs, are native to the island-nation of Madagascar. They are small, nocturnal primates of the genus Microcebus.
Two decades ago, there were only two species of mouse lemurs. Today, including the newly-discovered species, mouse lemurs comprise 24 species, which are only found in the highly biodiverse island of Madagascar.

Marine Life in Danger

According to a new study, oxygen levels in some oceans are beginning to fall and widespread evidence of the trend will likely be evident from 2030 onwards.
While the effects of climate change on marine ecosystems are a growing concern, loss of ocean oxygen would leave marine life struggling to breathe.
Loss of oxygen in the ocean is one of the serious side effects of a warming atmosphere.

Huge Coral Reef Discovered

A 9,300 sq. km coral reef system has been found below the muddy waters off the mouth of the river Amazon, astonishing scientists, governments and oil companies who have started to explore on top of it.
The existence of the long reef, which stretches from French Guiana to Brazil’s Maranhão state, was not suspected because many of the world’s great rivers produce major gaps in reef systems where no corals grow.
In addition, there was little previous evidence because corals mostly thrive in clear, sunlit, salt water, and the equatorial waters.
