  • Indian team secured the third rank in the medal tally at the 15th International Olympiad on Astronomy and Astrophysics (IOAA). India held the third position jointly with Singapore with students winning three gold and two silver medals. In the medals tally, India was placed jointly in the third position along with Singapore, behind Iran's official team (5 golds) and guest team (4 golds, 1 silver).

  • HDFC has launched India's first one-stop solution portal for Electric Vehicles Ecosystem, "All things EV". HDFC EGRO, General Insurance Company, which is a leading private sector general insurance company has claimed that the "All things EV", fulfills the needs of the existing and potential Electric Vehicles or EV users. The company has also launched a dedicated platform for existing and prospective EV ecosystem users as a part of the initiative which also hosts end-to-end information related to the EV sector. This platform welcomes all Indians who have purchased EVs or are planning to buy EVs in the future or are making an earning out of the growing EV sectors.

Uttarakhand: Observatory to Monitor Space Activity

  • India's first commercial space observatory will be set up in the Garhwal division of Uttarakhand. Digantara, a startup started in the field of space, will build this laboratory. This observatory will monitor the 10 cm size of microscopic particles moving in the space around the Earth. This space situational awareness observatory will help in monitoring space waste and military satellites hovering in space around the Earth.

Antim Panghal: India's first-ever U-20 world champion in wrestling

  • Antim Panghal, a 17-year-old wrestler from Haryana, defeated Kazakhstan's Atlyn Shagayeva 8-0 to win the title of Under-20 world champion, making her the first Indian woman to do so. The U-20 World Wrestling Championship was held in Sofia, Bulgaria. With an opening-round victory of 11-0 over German Amery Olivia, Antim Panghal prevailed because to her superior technical skills.

FTX Crypto Cup: R. Praggnanandhaa defeated world chess champion Magnus Carlsen

  • Indian chess master Rameshbabu Praggnanandhaa has defeated world champion, Magnus Carlsen, in the FTX Crypto Cup in Miami, an international chess Championship.
  • Praggnanandhaa's winning run came to an end at the hands of China's Quang Liem Le in the fifth round. He suffered his second loss after he went down to Poland's Jan-Krzystof Duda via the tie-break in the sixth round.

Congress Launches Website Of 'Bharat Jodo Yatra', Bills It People's Movement

  • The Congress on Tuesday launched the logo, tagline and website of its upcoming 'Bharat Jodo Yatra', billed as a mass contact programme of an unprecedented scale. The main yatra will cover 3,570 km from Kanyakumari in the south to Kashmir in the north over a period of about five months beginning September 7. Simultaneously, smaller 'Bharat Jodo Yatras' will be taken out in various states.

India Successfully Test-Fires Short Range Surface-To-Air Missile

  • India successfully test-fired Vertical Launch Short Range Surface-to-Air Missile (VL-SRSAM) from the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur off the Odisha coast here. The VL-SRSAM was flight-tested by the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) and the Indian Navy. The flight test was carried out from an Indian naval ship against a high-speed unmanned aerial target for demonstration of vertical launch capability.

BJP Leader Sonali Phogat Dies, Goa Police Register 'Unnatural Death' Case

  • Police have registered an unnatural death case after BJP leader and actor Sonali Phogat was "brought dead" at a hospital at Anjuna in North Goa, a senior police official said on Tuesday. "Preliminary enquiry has revealed that she had come to Goa on August 22 and was staying in a hotel in Anjuna. She started feeling uneasiness at the hotel and was shifted to hospital wherein she was declared brought dead.

Google Doodle: Indian Physicist Anna Mani

  • On 23 August, Google dedicated a doodle to Anna Mani, India's first female physics scientist. She was a physicist as well as a meteorologist. She has a special contribution related to research in the field of meteorology and energy. Anna Mani was born on 23 August, 1918 in the former state of Travancore (present-day Kerala). She is popularly known as the Weather Woman of India.

Centre Issues Advisory To States On Tomato Flu

  • The Centre on Tuesday issued an advisory to states on Hand Foot and Mouth Disease (HFMD), commonly known as Tomato Flu. According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Tomato Flu was first identified in the Kollam district of Kerala on May 6 and as of July 26, more than 82 children younger than 5 years with the infection have been reported by the local government hospitals. The other affected areas of Kerala are Anchal, Aryankavu, and Neduvathur.

UNESCO's Intangible Cultural Heritage List: India nominated Garba

  • India has nominated the Indian dance form Garba to be inscribed on UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage list. Last year, Durga Puja was included in UNESCO's intangible cultural heritage list and for 2022, India has nominated 'Garba'. The next UNESCO meeting will be held in November.
  • In July, India was elected by UNESCO to serve on the distinguished intergovernmental Committee of the 2003 Convention for the safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage. A total of 14 elements from India are inscribed on UNESCO'S list of Intangible Cultural Heritage and Humanity. These elements include music, dance, theatre, festivals, rituals, and storytelling.
