National Constitution Day

  • Constitution Day, Samvidhan Divas or National Law Day, is celebrated in India on November 26 every year to commemorate the adoption of the Constitution of India. On November 26, 1949, the Constituent Assembly of India formally adopted the Constitution of India. It came into force on January 26, 1950. Constitution Day aims to bring awareness about the importance of the Constitution and Dr. B. R. Ambedkar.
  • The Constitution is a set of written principles and precedents of the Government of India. It frames fundamental political principles, procedures, rights, directive principles, restrictions and duties of the government and the citizens of the country. The Constitution of India declares the country a sovereign, secular, socialist and democratic republic. It assures its citizens equality, liberty and justice.
  • B. R. Ambedkar, chairman of the drafting committee, is considered to be the chief architect of the Constitution of India. He is also called the Father of the Indian Constitution. The Constitution of India was drafted by the members of the Constituent Assembly.

National Milk Day

  • Every year November 26 is celebrated as National Milk Day in India. The day is being observed since 2014 to commemorate the birth anniversary of the Father of India's White Revolution, Dr. Verghese Kurien. He is also nicknamed as "Milkman of India".
  • Dr. Kurien was the father of the White Revolution in India and introduced 'Operation Flood,' under which dairy production was industrialized to improve milk production in the country.
  • National Milk Day provides a significant role in providing information related to the need for milk in human lives. Milk is considered to be the first food of a human child and is the food that is consumed throughout life.

International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women

  • The International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women is observed on November 25, every year. It is a day to pay tribute to the Mirabal sisters, the Dominican Republic activists who were murdered at the order of Rafael Trujilllo in 1960. The United Nations aims to raise awareness about gender-based violence against women.
  • The UN General Assembly in 1979, adopted the Convention of the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW). Yet violence against women and girls is a problem that can still be seen worldwide. To tackle this issue, the General Assembly issued resolution 48/104, to lay the foundation of a world free of gender-based violence.
  • The General Assembly adopted the Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women through resolution 48/104 on 20 December 1993.
  • The 2022 theme of International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women was 'UNITE! Activism to End Violence against Women and Girls.'

Thanksgiving Day

  • Thanksgiving Day is celebrated on the fourth Thursday of November every year. On this festive occasion, friends and families come together to say thanks and recognise the blessings and sacrifices of the past year. This American festival has many legends and rituals linked to its name.
  • The annual celebrations honour the first Thanksgiving feast hosted by the colonists in Massachusetts' Plymouth, later called the Pilgrims, and the Wampanoag Indians.
  • On 3 October 1863, President Abraham Lincoln had proclaimed a national day of Thanksgiving to be celebrated in November. The holiday was annually proclaimed by every President after that. However, after Congress' joint resolution in 1941, President Franklin D Roosevelt issued a proclamation in 1942 designating the fourth Thursday of November as Thanksgiving Day.

World Heritage Week (19-25 November 2022)

  • The Department of Archives, Archaeology and Museums is celebrating World Heritage week commencing from November 19 to November 25, 2022. 
  • The World Heritage Week is observed to promote the conservation of culture and heritage. The week–long celebration aims to create awareness about traditions and culture. The World Heritage Week is celebrated by UNESCO and several other international organisations. 
  • In India, the World Heritage Week is celebrated by the Archaeological Survey of India.

World Television Day

  • World Television Day is observed on November 21 every year. It is a day that recognises the value and impact of television in our lives. We all know television plays a crucial role in society and in an individual's life. It is our daily source of entertainment and information.
  • On 21st November and 22nd November 1996, the U.N. held the first World Television Forum. It provides a platform and allowed the media to discuss the importance of TV in delivering information and also how it participates in the changing world. It is the single largest source of video consumption.
  • Therefore, UN General Assembly on 17th December 1996 through resolution 51/205 established 21st November as World Television Day to commemorate the date on which World Television Forum was held. It was done by seeing the impact of Television on the process of decision-making. Television is a major tool and so acknowledged for informing, channelling, and affecting public opinion. We can't deny its impact on world politics, i.e. the way it influences world politics.
