Historic Agreement, Sets Minimum Tax of 15% for Corporates
The G7 Group of leading economies has reached "a historic agreement" to reform the global tax system to make it fit for the global digital age.
The US Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen said that the minimum rate of at least 15 per cent would end the race to the bottom in corporate taxation.
The G7 includes the UK, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan and the US.
The UK holds the G7 presidency this year.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will host the G7 leaders for a summit in Cornwall in South West England from June 11-13.
El Salvador Plans to Make Cryptocurrency Legal Tender
El Salvador's President plans to make the Bitcoin cryptocurrency legal tender in the country.
If his plan is backed by Congress, the Central American country would be first in the world to formally adopt the digital currency.
It would be used alongside the US dollar, El Salvador's official currency.
As per President Nayib Bukele, Bitcoin will make it easier for Salvadorans living abroad to send payments home.
"In the short term, this will generate jobs and help provide financial inclusion to thousands outside the formal economy," Mr. Bukele told a Bitcoin conference in Florida, adding that it could also boost investment to the country.
Interpol Launches "I-Familia" to Identify Missing Persons
The Interpol has launched a new global database named 'I-Familia' to identify missing persons through family DNA and help the police solve cold cases in member countries.
Describing it as a groundbreaking database, the Interpol in a statement said that it applied cutting-edge scientific research and used the DNA of relatives to identify missing persons or unidentified human remains around the world.
DNA kinship matching is used mostly in cases where a direct sample of the missing person is not available. 'I-Familia' is the first global database to automatically control for such differences without requiring knowledge of the missing person's genetic ancestry and provide standardised guidelines on what constitutes a match.
Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced that the Raimona Reserve Forest in Kokrajhar district under the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), bordering Bhutan, has been upgraded as the sixth National Park of the state.
The other five national parks in the state are Kaziranga, Manas, Nameri, Orang and Dibru-Saikhowa.
The Raimona National Park, which is within the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR), is part of a contiguous forest patch with an area of 422 square kilometres, covering the northern part of the notified Ripu Reserve Forest along the Indo-Bhutan border. It is home to golden langur, Asian elephants, tigers, clouded leopards, Indian gaur, wild buffalo, spotted deer, hornbill, more than 150 species of butterflies, 170 species of birds and 380 varieties of plants and orchids.

Tata Steel Mining Limited (TSML) has been declared as the successful resolution applicant by the creditors of Rohit Ferro-Tech Limited.
Tata Steel Mining Limited is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Tata Steel.
TSML has accepted the Letter of Intent for acquisition of Rohit Ferro-Tech under the Corporate Insolvency Resolution Process of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code 2016, the steel maker said without elaborating further.
FPIs Invest Rs. 8,000 cr in Indian Markets
Foreign investors have infused close to Rs. 8,000 crore into Indian equities in the first four trading sessions of June as risk-on sentiment improved amid rapidly falling new COVID-19 cases and robust corporate earnings.
The inflow comes following a net withdrawal of Rs. 2,954 crore in May and Rs. 9,659 crore in April, data with depositories showed.
SIDBI Invites Bids from Consultants to Help Set up Rs. 20K-crore NaBFID
SIDBI on behalf of the government has floated Request for Proposal (RFP) inviting bids from consultants to help set up Rs. 20,000 crore DFI called National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development (NaBFID) to catalyse investment in fund-starved infrastructure sector.
Parliament in March cleared National Bank for Financing Infrastructure and Development (NaBFID) Bill 2021 to support the development of long-term non-recourse infrastructure financing in India, including the development of the bonds and derivatives markets necessary for infrastructure financing.

Country's First E-vehicles-only Area in Gujarat's Kevadia
Development and Tourism Governance Authority (SOUADTGA) said it will develop the "country's first electric vehicles-only area" in Gujarat's Kevadia.
The authority said that the area surrounding the 182-metre tall Statue of Unity in Kevadia in Gujarat's tribal-dominated Narmada district will be converted into an electric-vehicles-only area in a phased manner.
The announcement comes a day after Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that Kevadia, which houses the world's tallest Statue of Unity, will become the country's first electric vehicle city.
Kevadia-headquartered SOUADTGA is empowered to execute development plans and manage tourism in the area around the statue of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.
India Slips Two Spots on 17 Sustainable Development Goals
According to a report, India's rank has slipped by two places from last year to 117 on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) adopted as a part of the 2030 agenda by 193 United Nations member states in 2015.
The State of India's Environment Report 2021 revealed that India's rank was 115 last year and dropped by two places primarily because major challenges like ending hunger and achieving food security (SDG 2), achieving gender equality (SDG 5) and building resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization and fostering innovation (SDG 9) remain in the country.
India ranks below four South Asian countries—Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, it said. The overall SDG score of India is 61.9 out of 100.
As per the report, Jharkhand and Bihar are the least prepared to meet the SDGs by 2030, which is the target year. While Jharkhand lags in five of the SDGs, Bihar lags in seven.
The 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, was adopted by all United Nations Member States in 2015, which provides a shared blueprint for peace and prosperity for people and the planet, now and into the future.
Chhattisgarh Reshuffles 29 IAS Officers, Including 9 District Collectors
In a major reshuffle the Chhattisgarh government transferred 29 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers including nine district collectors.
District collectors of Raipur, Rajnandgaon, Janjgir-Champa, Korea, Balrampur-Ramanujganj, Dhamtari, Korba, Mungeli and Bemetara districts have been changed.
Former Ireland rugby player Trevor Ringland has been appointed as the UK's first special envoy to the United States on Northern Ireland.
The appointment was announced by Northern Ireland Secretary Brandon Lewis with the aim of strengthening ties between the two nations.
The move has been welcomed by Ulster Unionists and the Democratic Unionists.
As special envoy, Mr. Ringland who is a solicitor will work with US firms and investors with an interest in Northern Ireland, to build on established links and support Northern Ireland's long-term economic development.

The United Nations General Assembly proclaimed in 2018 that every 7th June would be World Food Safety Day. In 2020, the World Health Assembly further passed a resolution to strengthen global efforts for food safety to reduce the burden of foodborne disease.
WHO and the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) jointly facilitate the observance of World Food Safety Day, in collaboration with the Member States and other relevant organisations.
This year's theme for World Food Safety Day is 'Safe food today for a healthy tomorrow', which focuses on producing and consuming safe food.

Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh R. K. Mathur launched the YounTab scheme for students and distributed 12,300 tablets among them virtually in Leh.
According to a statement issued by the Ladakh administration, the YounTab scheme is an initiative of the Department of School Education with technical support by the Information Technology Department under which 12,300 tablets with pre-loaded online and offline content, including textbooks, video lectures and online class applications, would be distributed to government school students from Class 6th to 12th.
5 States, UTs Get Highest Grade in Performance Grading Index 2019-20
Punjab, Chandigarh, Tamil Nadu, Andaman and Nicobar Islands, and Kerala occupy the highest grade A++ in 2019-20 in the field of school education according to the Performance Grading Index (PGI) released by the Education Ministry.
The grading index which analyses the performance of states on 70 parameters has put Delhi, Gujarat, Haryana, Rajasthan, Puducherry, Dadra and Nagar Haveli in the A+ category.
Punjab has scored the maximum points for governance and management; Bihar and Meghalaya have scored the lowest in terms of infrastructure and facilities.
The index helps the states and UTs to pinpoint the gaps and accordingly prioritise areas for intervention to ensure that the school education system is robust at every level.
According to the index, most of the states and UTs have improved their grade in PGI 2019-20 compared to earlier years.
Uttarakhand Has Lowest Child Sex Ratio at Birth in India
Uttarakhand is the worst-performing state in the country in terms of child sex ratio at birth, according to the NITI Aayog`s Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) India Index 2020-21.
According to the SDG data, the hill state's child sex ratio is 840 as compared to the national average of 899. Chhattisgarh has emerged as the best performer in this category, where the male-to-female ratio at birth stands at 958 - much above the national average.
Kerala is placed second with a sex ratio of 957, as per the NITI Aayog data. States like Punjab and Haryana have made significant progress in this category. While Haryana recorded birth of 843 females per 1000 males, the number has reached 890 in Punjab.
IIT Madras to Offer Executive PG programme in Data Science and Machine Intelligence

The Goa authorities launched a brief movie on Chhatrapati Shivaji on the event of the anniversary of Maratha king's coronation day.
A Konkani and Hindi model of the movie, titled Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Shivrajyabhishek Divas, was launched on social media by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and covers the historical past of Goa and Shivaji's function in preventing the Portuguese.
