Manika Sheokand is Haryana's Ambassador for Save Water Campaign

  • The Haryana Government appointed Femina Miss Grand India-2021 Manika Sheokand as the goodwill ambassador for Water Conservation Campaign.
  • Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar handed over appointment letter and an agreement to Manika at a programme organised at Haryana Niwas.

Ex-Arunachal Governor Y. S. Dadwal Passes Away

  • Former Commissioner of Delhi Police, Yudhvir Singh Dadwal, has passed away. He was 70.
  • Dadwal, an Indian Police Service officer of the 1974-batch, served as the 16th police commissioner of Delhi from July 2007 to November 2010. Notably, the Commonwealth Games were held in Delhi during his tenure.
  • After serving as the Delhi Police chief, he was appointed as the Director-General of the Central Paramilitary Force, Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) in November 2010. After retiring from the services, he was also appointed as the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh in 2016.

Arunachal Pradesh Advocate General Nilay Dutta Passes Away

  • Arunachal Pradesh Advocate General Nilay Dutta died of a massive heart attack in Coorg, Karnataka. He was 68 years old.
  • Dutta had studied at St. Stephen's College in Delhi and was later involved in the Naxalite movement, for which he was arrested and imprisoned. After his release, he became a bank employee and then a lawyer. He had held the post of Advocate General of Arunachal Pradesh since 2016.
  • Passionate about sports, Dutta has served as President of the Assam Cricket Association and has refereed several international cricket matches. He was also a member of the Union Interior Ministry's High Level Committee (HLC) on Term 6 of the Assam Accord.

Narendra Giri, Head of One of India's Largest Body of Saints, Found Dead

  • Mahant Narendra Giri, the president of Akhil Bharatiya Akhada Parishad, was found dead at Baghambari Muth.
  • The Parishad is the largest organisation of sadhus in India.
  • Mahant Giri's body was found hanging from the ceiling.
  • A purported suicide note was also found at the site in which the seer had written that he was mentally disturbed and was ending his life. He had also delegated various responsibilities to his disciples in the note.

Asics Names Joshna Chinappa as Brand Athlete

  • Japanese sports brand Asics has named Indian squash player Joshna Chinappa as their new brand athlete.
  • With this association, Asics hopes to inspire the next generation of athletes in the country and strengthen its customer base in India.
  • Asics entered the Indian market in 2015 and currently has over 55 stores across the country and sells on leading e-commerce platforms. The brand also has partnerships with several Indian athletes like Manika Batra, Bajrang Punia, Ravindra Jadeja, Sakshi Malik, Karman Kaur Thandi, Rohan Bopanna, T.Gopi among others.

Algeria's Former President Bouteflika Dies

  • Former Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika died at 84, more than two years after he stepped down under pressure from mass protests and the army.
  • Bouteflika, a veteran of Algeria's war for independence, had ruled the North African country for two decades before his resignation in April 2019 after street demonstrations rejecting his plan to seek a fifth term.
  • After Algeria's independence from France in 1962, former President Bouteflika became Algeria's first foreign minister and an influential figure in the Non-Aligned movement.

Noted Theoretical Physicist Thanu Padmanabhan Passes Away

  • Noted theoretical physicist and recipient of Padma Shri award, Professor Thanu Padmanabhan died in Pune. He was 64.
  • A distinguished professor at the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA), Padmanabhan had conducted research on gravitation, structure formation in the universe and quantum gravity, he wrote over 300 papers in international journals and also authored several books.
  • The Kerala State Council for Science, Technology, and Environment had recently awarded Padmanabhan the 'Kerala Sasthra Puraskaram', a lifetime achievement award.
