Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan participates in G20 Extraordinary Energy Ministers' virtual meeting
Minister of Petroleum and Natural Gas and Steel, Dharmendra Pradhan participated in the G20 Extraordinary Energy Ministers' virtual Meeting.
The meeting was called by Saudi Arabia, in its capacity as the G20 Presidency, and chaired by Saudi Arabia Energy Minister Prince Abdulaziz. The meeting was attended by Energy Ministers of G20 countries, guest countries and heads of international organizations including OPEC, IEA and IEF.
The G20 Energy Ministers' focused on ways and means to ensure stable energy markets, which are affected due to demand reduction as result of the COVID-19 pandemic and the ongoing surplus production -related matters.
NIF Develops Wormivet, A Chemical Method To Treat Worms
National Innovation Foundation India (NIF) has developed "wormivet," an indigenous herbal medication (dewormer) in the form of commercial products for livestock owners. The product will be an alternative to the chemical method of treatment of worm. Wormivet is a medication to treat endoparasite (worm) infestation among livestock sent by Harshadbhai Patel, Gujarat.
Biofortified Carrot Variety Developed By Farmer Scientist Benefits Local Farmers
Madhuban Gajar, a biofortified carrot variety with high β-carotene and iron content developed by Shri Vallabhhai Vasrambhai Marvaniya, a farmer scientist from Junagadh district, Gujarat is benefitting more than 150 local farmers in the area. It is being planted in an area of over 200 hectares in Junagadh, and the average yield, which is 40-50 t/ha, has become the main source of income to the local farmers. The variety is being cultivated in more than 1000 hectares of land in Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh during the last three years.
The Madhuvan Gajar is a highly nutritious carrot variety developed through the selection methodwith higher β-carotene content (277.75 mg/kg) and iron content (276.7 mg/kg) dry basis and is used for various value-added products like carrot chips, juices, and pickles. Among all the varieties tested, beta-carotene and iron content were found to be superior.
Merger of 10 Banks into Four to Come into Effect from April 1, Says FM Nirmala Sitharaman
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the exercise of consolidation of 10 public sector banks (PSBs) into four is on course and the merger will come into effect from April 1, 2020.
The Union Cabinet, she said, has given a go-ahead for the merger proposal and the government has been in regular touch with these banks. There will be no regulatory issues, she said.
In the biggest consolidation exercise in the banking space, the government in August 2019 had announced four major mergers of public sector banks, bringing down their total number to 12 from 27 in 2017, a move aimed at making state-owned lenders global sized banks.
World Bank sees FY21 India growth at 1.5-2.8%; slowest since economic reforms three decades back
India is likely to record its worst growth performance since the 1991 liberalisation this fiscal year as the coronavirus outbreak severely disrupts the economy. India's economy is expected to grow 1.5 per cent to 2.8 per cent in the 2020-21 fiscal which started on April 1, the World Bank said in its South Asia Economic Focus report. It estimated India will grow 4.8 per cent to 5 per cent in the 2019-20 fiscal that ended on March 31.

SpaceX Unveils Users' Guide For Giant Starship Rocket
SpaceX released a users' guide for Starship, the reusable spaceship-rocket combo the company is developing to help colonize Mars. As the guide makes clear, Starship is designed to be a flexible transportation system, one capable of delivering both people and payloads to a variety of off-Earth destinations.
Indeed, the company will develop cargo and crewed variants of Starship. The cargo version will be capable of hauling gear quickly from point to point around Earth in addition to its space duties, according to the guide, which is the first version of a document that SpaceX said will be updated frequently.
SunRISE becomes new NASA mission to study Giant Solar Particle Storms
NASA announced they have selected the proposed Sun Radio Interferometer Space Experiment (SunRISE) mission to study how the Sun creates and releases Giant Solar Particle Storms. This mission will further aid scientists to understand how the Solar System works. It will also help protect future astronauts from Solar Storms while going to the Moon or Mars.
The SunRise mission was one of two missions chosen by NASA in August of 2017, for the Mission of Opportunity program as apart of the Explorers Program, to conduct an 11-month concept study. And in February of 2019, NASA approved an extra year of formulation study for the program. It was awarded in March of 2020, $62.6 million to design, build, and launch the SunRISE mission. It has a NET launch date of July 1, 2023.
The mission is led by Justin Kasper at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. It is also managed by NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL).

The official mascots of the 19th Asian Games were unveiled at a digital launch ceremony in Hangzhou, China yesterday. The three robots, which are going to be the mascots for the 2022 Hangzhou Asian Games are collectively known as the smart triplets.

China To Host Asian Youth Games In 2021
China, the epicenter of COVID-19 pandemic, will host the third edition of Asian Youth Games from November 20 to 28, 2021. The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) announced this decision in a letter to all the Asians member nations on April 3, 2020.
The OCA informed that the decision regarding the dates and the venue was taken in coordination with the Shantou 3rd Asian Youth Games Organising Committee (SAYGOC).

Indian Ministers, MPs To Take 30% Pay Cut For One Year
In the wake of a financial crisis stemming from the new coronavirus pandemic, the Union cabinet cleared an ordinance to cut salaries of all ministers and members of Parliament for a year. Chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the cabinet decided to amend the Salary, Allowances and Pension of Members of Parliament Act through an ordinance, to cut salaries of all ministers, including himself, for a year by 30 percent. This has been done to reflect the social responsibility of parliamentarians.

Easter festival commemorates the resurrection of Jesus from the dead and is celebrated across the world. It begins from the Lent and ends with Holy Week, which includes Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and finally Easter Sunday. In Latin Easter is known as Pascha. It is celebrated annually but the date of the festival is not fixed, it varies every year. In 2020, it was celebrated on 12 April.
Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic, Easter Festival was celebrated at homes. Celebrations this year had gone online. Queen Elizabeth on 11 April, 2020 said in a recording "This year, Easter will be different for many of us. But by keeping apart, we keep others safe".

The United Nations General Assembly in its resolution on April 7, 2011, had declared April 12 to be celebrated as International Day of Human Space Flight.
On April 12, 1961, the first human space flight was carried out by Yuri Gagarin, a Soviet citizen, who became the first person to journey into outer space. The mission opened several pathways for space exploration, which benefited the next generations.

Delhi govt. Launched operation SHIELD to contain COVID-19 pandemic
The Delhi government launched 'Operation SHIELD' in 21 containment zones in the state. The announcement was made by the Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal.
Operation SHIELD:
♦ Operation SHIELD aims to curb the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
♦ People who are living in containment areas have been directed to cooperate in implementing Operation SHIELD.
♦ S-Sealing of area
The government sealed the area immediately and its surroundings after geographical marking following positive cases there.
♦ H-Home quarantine
As a second move of the operation, people in the sealed areas will be kept under Home quarantine.
♦ I-Isolation of infected patients
The Delhi government will isolate the COVID-19 infected people and keep them monitored at the isolation centre
♦ E-Essential services ensured
Under the operation, the government ensures the home-delivery of essential items.
♦ L-Local sanitization
In this fifth step, the government will sanitize the select areas by the local authorities
♦ D- Door to door survey
♦ In the last step, the government will check door-to-door houses to ascertain whether anybody in containment has a cough or any other symptoms of COVID-19.
MHRD Launched Samadhan, A Challenge To Find Quick Solution To COVID-19 pandemic
The Innovation Cell of the Ministry of Human Resources Development (MHRD) in collaboration with All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) and Forge and InnovatioCuris launched "SAMADHAN", a mega online challenge, to test the ability of students to innovate
Samadhan:
♦ Students can participate in the Samadhan challenge.
♦ The participating candidates are expected to search and develop new measures that can provide quick solutions to the Coronavirus epidemic and other such calamities. The solution can be made available to the government agencies, health services, hospitals, and other services
♦ Samadhan will be done to make citizens aware, to motivate them, to face any challenge, to prevent any crisis and to help people get a livelihood.
♦ Under the Samadhan challenge, the faculty and students can conduct new experiments and make new discoveries. The experiments should be provided with a strong base leading to a spirit of experimentation and discovery.
♦ Applications to participate in the competition will start on 7 April 2020. he last date for submission of application is 14 April 2020.
♦ The names of the contestants after shortlisting will be declared on 17 April 2020. The contestants are expected to submit their entries between 18-23 April 2020. The final list of Samadhan will be released on 24 April and the grand online jury will decide the winners of the challenge on 25 April 2020.

NIPER-Guwahati Designs Innovative 3D Products To Fight COVID-19
Researchers at the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research - Guwahati (NIPER-G) have come out with two products that promise to be of great help in the fight against the current pandemic outbreak of COVID-19 infection in the world.
The first product is a 3D-printed hands-free object that could be used to help open or close doors, windows, drawers (both vertical and horizontal), and refrigerator handle, or press elevator buttons, and laptop/desktop keyboards, including turning the switch buttons on/off.
