Community Guidelines for TCYonline Discussions

This is an online community of students and teachers. Students can post their questions which might be exam questions or generic doubts. Teachers help the students with solutions and proper guidance.

What to do

Be courteous - Being a diverse community of people, we must show respect to each other-s opinions. This will enhance the level and quality of interaction.

Language - While posting content, we must use simple and easy to understand language. Avoid using chat lingo.

Content - Each one of us possess a vast pool of knowledge gained from our academic qualifications and experience. The same originality should reflect in our answers. Do not to copy/paste the content from internet. To back up your information, cite sources wherever necessary. Take care of punctuation like question mark, comma etc. Don-t post abusive content as it may lead to suspension of your account.

Participation - Make sure that your question is placed in the right category and right discussion. This will help us suggest you relevant posts to you. As a community member, you equally share the responsibility to keep the discussion clean. Good answers should be boosted by giving thumbs-up and bad answers must be removed by reporting abusive.

Profile - As a participant, you should have an up-to-date profile so that other participants know whom they are speaking to. It also brings a trust factor in students asking questions.

What not to do

Marketing - You should not promote yourself in your answers by giving contact details. Any such posts are liable to be penalized.

Duplicate Content - After posting a question, wait for the answer. Dont post your query multiple times. Duplicate questions as well as any other form of content will be reported abusive and removed from the site.

Copyright material - Posting copyright material is strongly discouraged. Any legal implications will be borne by the person posting the same.

Both courses of actions here are right. Since the nature of the bugs has not been mentioned in the question, it is left for the student's assumptions. There have been instances where companies have recalled their products from the market because the bugs in the product have been of serious nature. For example, data security. If the product was left to stay in the market in such a scenario, it will get sold to more people and rectification for each customer can prove to be an unproductive exercise as compared to recalling the products and rectifying the error for the customers who have the product already.

Directions: Choose the correct course of action.

You have raided a shop and manufacturing facility of a highly reputed sweets manufacturer of the city. You find sweets being prepared under unhygienic conditions. The owner of the establishment says that much of his regular workforce is on leave which has resulted in this degeneration of conditions. He is open to pay a huge fine, but requests you not to release the story to the media as his reputation would be torn to shreds.

What would be the ethical decision to take under these conditions?

Release the story to the media. People have the right to know what they are buying.

Do not fine the sweet manufacture with a huge amount. A lifetime of reputation deserves another chance at redemption.

Impose a huge penalty and put the manufacturer on probation for one year during which any infringement in health guidelines will result in sealing of his manufacturing facility and the shop.

Ask him to voluntarily close operations for a few days and utilise the time to ensure future compliance with health guidelines.

Directions: Choose the correct course of action.

As an investigative officer, you are handed a case by Customs officials who have caught a woman smuggling drugs. She pleads that she is not a user and that she agreed to do it because she is very poor and needed money. Her medical test proves that she is not a user and her story is also checked out in your investigation.

What would be the most ethical choice for you under such circumstances?

Report the matter to your senior and let her take a call on it.

Arrest the woman and submit her case with her previous track record and present exigencies.

Arrest the woman, interrogate her to extract information about her contacts and then let the law take its course.

Confiscate the drugs but let her go subject to a written undertaking of good behaviour in future.
