Ans: dravid had 24 & sachin had 12 marbles. ----the last statement of your question is "after the 3rd game, each boy had exactly the number of marbles he had started with, and dravid had twice as many marbles as sachin". ----that means even at the start...ie. before playing the 1st game, dravid had twice as many marbles as sachin. ----now lets say that sachin had "X" marbles at start of the game. that means dravid had "2X" marbles at the start of the game. ----now after 1st game, dravid gave half of his marbles to sachin. ----that is after 1st game, dravid had X marbles and sachin had 2X marbles. ----now after 2nd game, sachin lost 3/4th of his marbles to dravid. ----that means after 2nd game, the number of marbles dravid had = = X + 3/4 (2X) = X + 3/2 X = 5/2 X. ----but it is given that, dravid had 30 marbles after the 2nd game. ----therefore, 5/2 X = 30 X = 12. ----thus, at the start, sachin had 12 marbles and dravid had 24 marbles. CROSSCHECK :- .................................................................sachin................dravid original amount of marbles....12...................24 after 1st game(dravid lost half ie 12)......24.......................12 after 2nd game (sachin lost 3/4th ie 18)........6..................30 after 3rd game (sachin won some ie 6)..........12..................24

F----->G , Father & Grandpa crosses in 12 mt

B <----Brother came back in 3 mts

J----->M , John & mother crosses in 6 mts

J <----John came back in 1 mt

J---->B, lastly John & bother crosses in 3 mts.

So total of 29 mts. So they cross the river in 29 mts.
