Nagaland celebrates its Statehood Day on December 1. Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla extended warm greetings to the people of the State, paying tribute to the resilience and aspirations of the Naga people.
After India's independence in 1947, the Naga-inhabited region remained part of Assam.
Rising nationalist sentiment among Naga tribes led to demands for autonomy and, at times, secession.
In 1957, the Naga Hills district of Assam and Tuensang Frontier Division were administratively merged under direct Central control.
In 1960, it was agreed that Nagaland would become a full-fledged state within the Indian Union.
In 1963 Nagaland formally became India's 16th state, and the first elected government assumed office in 1964.
World AIDS Day
Every year on December 1, World AIDS Day is commemorated to increase awareness of HIV and AIDS, provide support to individuals living with the infection, and honour the memory of those who have perished because of such illnesses.
It started in 1988 when the World Health Organisation (WHO) and the United Nations (UN) launched it. The objective was to spread awareness about HIV / AIDS, erase misconceptions, and build empathy for people living with HIV. This day reminds people around the world that AIDS is not only a health problem but also a social and humanitarian issue for which everyone should work together.
The theme for World AIDS Day 2025 is 'Overcoming disruption, transforming the AIDS response'.
