Veteran Socialist Leader Dr. Baba Adhav Passes Away

Dr. Baba Adhav, a veteran socialist leader and longtime advocate for porters, unskilled workers, and rickshaw drivers in Maharashtra, died in Pune at the age of 95. Born in 1930, he started as an Ayurveda doctor in 1953 before dedicating his life to labour and social-justice work. Adhav founded NGOs such as Hamal Panchayat and Rickshaw Panchayat to support vulnerable workers and avoid electoral politics. He received multiple awards for his social impact, including the Times of India Social Impact Award for Lifetime Contribution in 2011. His work focused on improving working conditions and community welfare for marginalised groups.

Ritu Raj Sinha, TS UISL MD, Dies at 58

Ritu Raj Sinha, Managing Director of Tata Steel Utility Infrastructure and Services Ltd (TS UISL) in Jamshedpur, died unexpectedly at the age of 58. Appointed MD in November 2022, Sinha led urban infrastructure initiatives, including sanitation, waste management, and civic facilities, contributing to notable enhancements in public services. His leadership coincided with improved municipal outcomes, including Jamshedpur’s Swachh Survekshan rankings in 2024‑25. Sinha previously served as chief of corporate administration at Tata Steel, adding strategic depth to urban projects. His passing is a significant loss for the Tata group’s infrastructure arm and broader urban development in the city.

Former Mizoram Governor Swaraj Kaushal passes away

Senior lawyer Swaraj Kaushal, former Mizoram Governor and husband of late Union Minister Sushma Swaraj, died at age 74. Born July 12, 1952, in Solan, Kaushal studied in Delhi and Chandigarh and built a distinguished legal career. He served as Mizoram Governor from 1990 to 1993 and as a member of Parliament from 1998 to 2004, representing Haryana. Kaushal was an expert on the northeast and its insurgency, contributing to the Mizoram Peace Accord negotiations in 1986 and serving as Mizoram Advocate General in 1987. He is survived by his wife and daughter Bansuri Swaraj, BJP MP. He will be remembered for public service.
