India Resume International Postal Services to the United States of America

  • The Department of Posts, Ministry of Communications, Government of India, announced the resumption of all categories of international postal services to the United States of America (USA) with effect from October 15, 2025.
  • Postal services to the USA were earlier suspended through Office Memorandum dated 22 August 2025, following Executive Order 14324 issued by the U.S. Administration, which suspended the de minimis treatment for all postal shipments. The suspension was necessitated by new regulatory requirements introduced by the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for the collection and remittance of import duties.

  • Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) announced the appointment of Tarun Garg as its next Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, effective January 1, 2026, pending shareholder approval. This move makes Garg the first Indian national to lead the company since its inception in 1996, underscoring Hyundai's growing confidence in Indian leadership and the market's global significance.
  • Currently serving as Whole-time Director and Chief Operating Officer (COO), Garg succeeds Unsoo Kim, who will transition to a strategic role at Hyundai Motor Company (HMC), South Korea, following a seamless handover.

Hindustan Shipyard Granted Mini Ratna Status

  • Hindustan Shipyard Limited (HSL), one of India's oldest shipbuilding entities, was conferred Mini Ratna status by the Government of India. This recognition marks a significant turnaround for the shipyard and strengthens its role in India's maritime and defence manufacturing ecosystem.
  • Founded in 1941, HSL was once a cornerstone of India's shipbuilding capability, producing vessels for both commercial and naval use.
  • However, from the 1980s onward, it faced severe operational and financial setbacks due to outdated technology, project delays, and poor competitiveness.
  • Despite being transferred to the Ministry of Defence in 2010, its revival took shape only after 2015.

Indian Railways Launches Door-to-Door Freight Services to Cut Logistics Costs, Bridge Last-mile Gaps

  • With an eye on modernising its freight transportation system, the Indian Railways launched a door-to-door parcel service between Mumbai and Kolkata and assured Transit Container Train Service between Delhi-Kolkata, alongside the inauguration of the Sonik Integrated Logistics Hub in Unnao, near Lucknow.
  • Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw said industries can now send a specific number of containers instead of being required fill an entire rake to their destination.
  • Door-to-door services are essential for the country. This will enhance rail efficiency and reduce logistics costs. Several experiments were conducted, and based on these findings, three solutions have been launched. Now, even goods like tractors will be transported by rail.
  • This marks a strategic shift in the Railways' approach from being a traditional freight operator for bulk commodities to becoming a logistics service provider. The Railways aims to deliver first and last-mile connectivity across industrial and consumer sectors.

India Secures First Global Order to Build LNG-powered Container Ships Worth $300 Million

  • France-based CMA CGM, the world's third-biggest container carrier, sees India as an "alternative" for building small, liquefied natural gas-powered box ships, chairman and chief executive Rodolphe Saade said, after signed a letter of intent with Cochin Shipyard for constructing six such ships for about $300 million. This is the first container ship order ever to be placed by a global mainline ship operator in India and an inflection point for the industry.

  • Netcore Cloud, a marketing technology leader, announced Agentic Marketing 2025, a major summit in partnership with Google Cloud and ETBrandEquity. This one-day event will bring together India's top marketing and technology leaders to explore a major shift in the industry: moving from basic automation to intelligent systems that work on their own.
  • The event, themed "Do The Impossible," takes place on October 30, 2025, at Taj Lands End, Mumbai. It will help define new strategies for customer experience and business growth.

FICCI Announces Anant Goenka as President-elect for 2025-26

  • Industry chamber FICCI in October 2025 announced RPG Group vice chairman Anant Goenka as president-elect for 2025-26.
  • Mr. Goenka is currently the senior vice president of the chamber.
  • He will succeed Harsha Vardhan Agarwal at the conclusion of its annual general meeting, which is slated for the end of next month here.
  • RPG Group is a $5 billion conglomerate with interests in the tyre, infrastructure, pharma, IT and speciality sectors, the chamber said in a statement.
  • Goenka was earlier the MD and CEO of CEAT. He has also worked with Unilever and KEC International.
  • Mr. Anant has an MBA from Kellogg School of Management and a BS Economics from the Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania.

India and Saudi Arabia Strengthen Cooperation in Chemicals and Petrochemicals Sector

  • A bilateral meeting held between Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals, Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers, Government of India and Ministry of Industry and Minerals, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The Indian side was led by Ms. Nivedita Shukla Verma, Secretary Department of Chemicals & Petrochemicals. The Saudi delegation was led by H.E Eng. Khalil bin Ibrahim bin Salamah, Vice Minister of Industry and Minerals.
  • Saudi Arabia is India's fourth largest trade partner, and India is Saudi Arabia's second largest trade partner. Bilateral trade between the two countries reached USD 41.88 billion in 2024–25, with chemicals and petrochemicals contributing 10%, which is nearly USD 4.5 billion.

  • The Logistics Division, Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, commemorated the completion of four transformative years of the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan (NMP) with a special event in New Delhi, chaired by Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal.
  • Among the key initiatives inaugurated at the event, the launch of "PM GatiShakti Public" through the Unified Geospatial Interface (UGI) marks a significant milestone in democratising access to infrastructure and geospatial data. This query-based web platform provides regulated access to selected non-sensitive datasets from the PM GatiShakti NMP, enabling private entities, consultants, researchers, and citizens to leverage advanced analytics for infrastructure planning and investment decisions.

RBI Eases Rupee Lending to Boost Trade with Bhutan, Nepal, Sri Lanka

  • In a move aimed at strengthening regional trade and payment systems, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) allowed Indian banks and their overseas branches to extend rupee-denominated loans to persons residing in Bhutan, Nepal, and Sri Lanka.
  • As per RBI, the step was taken to facilitate cross-border trade transactions and is part of its ongoing efforts to ease external trade and payment mechanisms.

L&T Wins Major Grid Infrastructure Orders in Middle East

  • Larsen & Toubro's (L&T) Power Transmission & Distribution (PT&D) business secured large grid infrastructure orders in the Middle East, strengthening its position in the region's energy sector.
  • The company will build a 400 kV substation in the United Arab Emirates as part of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) interconnection project. This interconnection links the electricity networks of GCC member states, helping them share power efficiently and enhance overall grid stability.

Three Indian Ports Named Green Hydrogen Hubs

  • India took a significant step toward building a future-ready green energy ecosystem by designating three major ports as Green Hydrogen Hubs. The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE), under the framework of the National Green Hydrogen Mission, formally recognised Deendayal Port (Gujarat), V.O. Chidambaranar Port (Tamil Nadu), and Paradip Port (Odisha) as focal points for green hydrogen production, distribution, and usage.
  • Under the National Green Hydrogen Mission, India aims to become a global hub for green hydrogen production and export. These hydrogen hubs are intended to serve as integrated zones, where clean hydrogen is produced, stored, transported, and consumed across various sectors such as shipping, logistics, fertilizers, and refining.

RBI Appoints Sanjay Kumar, Sonali Sen as New EDs

  • The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) appointed Sanjay Kumar Hansda and Sonali Sen Gupta as Executive Directors (EDs) to the bank.
  • As ED, Gupta will look after the consumer education and protection department, financial inclusion and development department and inspection department. Hansda will look after the department of economic and policy research.

Akasa Air Co-Founder and Senior Vice President Neelu Khatri Resigns

  • Akasa Air's co-founder and Senior Vice President for international operations Neelu Khatri put in her papers, marking a high-level exit at the three-year-old airline.
  • Khatri is among the founding team of Akasa Air, which started flying in August 2022. She is also one of the executive committee members of the airline.
  • Apart from Khatri, Akasa Air has five other co-founders -- Aditya Ghosh, Anand Srinivasan, Belson Coutinho, Bhavin Joshi and Praveen Iyer.
