Karnataka Introduces e-Swathu 2.0 for Rural Property Digitalisation
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has launched the upgraded e-Swathu 2.0, a digital platform aimed at regularising rural properties in Karnataka. The system is expected to generate up to Rs 2,000 crore in revenue by bringing 95 lakh properties in gram panchayats under the tax net.
Lok Sabha Passes Health & National Security Cess Bill
The Lok Sabha has passed the Health Security se National Security Cess Bill, 2025. The bill is aimed to augment funding for health and national security with the imposition of cess on production of goods such as pan masala and any other goods that may be notified by the central government. Proceeds from the cess will be used for expenditure towards public health and national security.
Replying to a debate on the Bill, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said, the government wants to deter the use of demerit goods. She said collected cess will be spent on public health and also on strengthening defence ecosystems. She said, public health is a state subject, while defence is the responsibility of the Centre. She stressed on the need to raise more resources to modernize the defence forces to deal with the evolving challenges.
Tamil Nadu Adds Five New Products to Its GI Portfolio, Taking Total to 74
Five distinctive products from Tamil Nadu have been awarded the Geographical Indications (GI) tag, showcasing the State's rich heritage in traditional crafts, agricultural varieties, and artisanal skills. The newly recognised products include:
- Woraiyur cotton sari
- Kavindapadi nattu sakkarai (traditional jaggery powder)
- Namakkal soapstone cookware (makkal pathirangal)
- Thooyamalli rice (a traditional rice variety)
- Ambasamudram choppu saman (wooden toys)
With this recognition, Tamil Nadu now possesses 74 GI-tagged products, strengthening its position as a leading contributor to India's cultural and craft diversity.
India Launches GIRG to Strengthen Its Global Rankings and Performance
The Indian government has announced a major initiative to compare the country's performance with 26 global indices. This effort aims to identify areas where India can improve and strengthen its position in international rankings. The announcement was made by Minister of State for Statistics and Programme Implementation, Rao Inderjit Singh, in Parliament on Monday.
This initiative is part of the Global Indices for Reforms and Growth (GIRG) platform. GIRG is designed to use international comparisons to guide policy changes, improve governance, and enhance India's statistical and data-reporting systems.
New Delhi, 4 December 2025: Arun Kumar Singh, aged 63, was granted a rare one-year extension as chairman of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC). He will hold the post until 6 December 2026, according to an order from the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Singh became the first near-60 executive to head a blue‑chip PSU in 2022, and the extension signals government preference for continuity as ONGC advances in production and exploration. The decision follows a cabinet review and underscores the importance of stable leadership in strategic energy assets.

Vivek Chaturvedi is Appointed as New CBIC Chairman
The Government of India has appointed Vivek Chaturvedi, a 1990-batch Indian Revenue Service (Customs & Indirect Taxes) officer, as the new Chairman of the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC). His selection was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet, as mentioned in an order issued by the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT).
Vivek Chaturvedi is a senior IRS officer with more than 30 years of experience in the field of indirect taxes. Over the years, he has worked in several key positions, contributing to tax administration, compliance, and policy matters. His long career in the revenue services has earned him a reputation for leadership and integrity.
DoLR to Organise National Symposium on Naksha and LandStack to Enhance Urban Digital Land Reforms

Parliament Winter Session
The winter session of Parliament kick started on, December 1 and will continue until December 19, Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju announced. Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the media ahead of the session and called for a smooth "drama free" session. As the session kicked off, opposition MPs decided to raise several matters, including concerns linked to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, equality, income, the Red Fort blast, Delhi pollution and foreign policy.

The First Northeast India Organic Week Concludes
The first Northeast India Organic Week concluded on December 1, 2025. Hosted by Meghalaya, the four-day event aimed at positioning the state and the wider region as a strong competitor in the global organic market. The programme brought together international buyers, organic specialists and youth leaders to accelerate market access and highlight the region's biodiversity-driven produce.
The event was organised by the state agriculture department in partnership with APEDA, the Union commerce ministry and IFOAM-Organics Asia.
Delegations, importers and representatives from 13 countries, including Malaysia, Taiwan, Mongolia, New Zealand and Indonesia, attended the event. A major attraction was the APEDA buyer-seller meet, designed to foster direct engagement between producers and global markets looking for sustainable and certified organic products.
Tripura Signs Two Skill Development MoUs with IIT Delhi, Tata IIS
To enhance skill development of youth with emerging industry demands, the Tripura government signed two MoUs with IIT Delhi and Tata IIS.
These partnerships aim to train a total of 1,000 candidates in cutting-edge job roles aligned with emerging industry demands, thereby boosting local employment and reducing outmigration.
The first MoU, signed with IIT Delhi, will train 500 candidates in five futuristic job roles Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Internet of Things (IoT), Blockchain, and 5G technologies.
Under the second MoU, Tata IIS will train another 500 candidates in high-demand technical sectors such as industrial automation safety engineering, industrial robotic system integration, electric vehicle maintenance technician, CNC programming, and 3D printing operations.
