Russia Launches Soyuz MS-28 with Three Astronauts to ISS

  • A Soyuz-2.1a carrier rocket was launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan, sending the Soyuz MS-28 spacecraft with two Russian cosmonauts and one U.S. astronaut to the International Space Station (ISS).
  • The crew includes Russian commander Sergei Kud-Sverchkov, making his second spaceflight, fellow Russian cosmonaut Sergei Mikayev, and NASA astronaut Christopher Williams, both flying to space for the first time.
  • For the first time, the crew's work on the ISS will integrate the GigaChat neural network, a large-scale generative AI model developed by Russia's largest bank, Sberbank.
  • The mission is scheduled to last 242 days, with a planned return to Earth in summer 2026. During this period, more than 40 experiments will be conducted under the Russian program, with two spacewalks planned for April and June 2026.

Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT) Signs MoU with Indian Institute of Technology, Roork...

  • The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), a premier R&D centre of the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Communications, Government of India, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee (IITR), a leading institution of national importance.  
  • As part of the MOU, C-DOT is setting up a Centre of Excellence (CoE) at IIT Roorkee. The primary objective of C-DOT Centre of Excellence (CoE) at IIT Roorkee, is to accelerate indigenous research, innovation and capacity building in advanced communication technologies. CoE will have a strong focus on research in the areas of wireless communication, Quantum technologies, Cyber security and AI based applications. Establishing CoE will promote academia–industry synergy leveraging academic expertise of IITR and industry strength of C-DOT and enable students, researchers, and start-ups to contribute to India's innovation and self-reliance journey.

PM Modi to Launch Skyroot's Multi-Launch Vehicle Facility

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Indian space start-up Skyroot's Infinity Campus via video conferencing. He also unveiled Skyroot's first orbital rocket, Vikram-I, with the capability to launch satellites to orbit. The Infinity Campus spans around 200,000 square feet and boasts the capacity to build one orbital rocket every month.
  • Skyroot is India's leading private space company, founded by Pawan Chandana and Bharath Dhaka, both alumni of the Indian Institutes of Technology and former scientists of ISRO turned entrepreneurs. In November 2022, Skyroot launched its sub-orbital rocket, Vikram-S, becoming the first Indian private company to launch a rocket to space.

  • Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh called upon society to contribute to the field of science and technology. He inaugurated the fabrication and central facilities under the National Quantum Mission, with a total outlay of Rs. 720 crore, at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay. Addressing the occasion, Singh stated that India is one of the very first countries in the world to have a National Quantum Mission.

India, Australia & Canada Launch ACITI Trilateral Tech and Innovation Partnership

  • India, Australia, and Canada announced a new trilateral technology and innovation partnership: the Australia-Canada-India Technology and Innovation (ACITI) Partnership.
  • The three sides agreed to strengthen their ambition in cooperation on critical and emerging technologies, to complement existing bilateral initiatives.
  • The initiative will draw on the natural strengths of the three countries and have an emphasis on green energy innovation and building resilient supply chains, including in critical minerals. It will deepen their respective ambition and strategic collaboration towards net zero and drive further diversification of supply chains towards a secure, sustainable, and resilient future. The Partnership will also examine the development and mass adoption of artificial intelligence to improve the lives of our citizens.
  • They agreed that officials should convene in the first quarter of 2026 to take the initiative forward.

Oman Signs Landmark Agreement to Launch its First Communications Satellite, OMANSAT-1

  • In a landmark step for the Sultanate's emerging space sector, Oman officially signed an agreement with Airbus Defence and Space to design, manufacture and launch of OMANSAT-1, the country's first-ever communications satellite.
  • The signing ceremony was attended by the Chair of the National Space Program and Head of the Project Management Office, who described the moment as a "milestone for Oman's space journey" and emphasised the project's significance as a strategic investment in national capabilities, digital sovereignty, and the long-term development of Oman's space economy.
