Kudermetova and Mertens win Wimbledon Women's Doubles Title

Eighth seeds Veronika Kudermetova and Elise Mertens won their first Grand Slam as a pair, beating Hsieh Su-Wei and Jelena Ostapenko 3-6 6-2 6-4 in the Wimbledon women's doubles final.
It was the first major title for Russia's Kudermetova, who was on the losing side in the 2021 final against Mertens and Hsieh. The second Wimbledon crown for Belgian Mertens took her to five Grand Slam doubles titles.

Harikrishnan A Becomes India's 87th Grandmaster

Harikrishnan A. Ra., a chess player from Chennai, officially became India's 87th Grandmaster. He earned his final Grandmaster (GM) norm at the La Plagne International Chess Festival in France in July 2025, completing a long seven-year journey from International Master (IM) to GM.
Harikrishnan had been an International Master for seven years, chasing the Grandmaster title by competing in many tournaments. Despite coming close multiple times, he could not complete all three GM norms until now. Coached by Shyam Sundar, he kept working hard and stayed committed to his goal.

Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool Win Men's Doubles

Fifth seeds Julian Cash and Lloyd Glasspool capped their dream summer with the Wimbledon crown and first Grand Slam title as a pair when the British team downed Rinky Hijikata and David Pel 6-2 7-6(3) in the men's doubles final.

The 2025 Under-20 Wrestling Championship in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan concluded with the final bouts in the remaining five weight categories of Freestyle Wrestling. The Indian Under-20 freestyle wrestling team delivered a commendable performance, finishing second, securing a total of 2 gold, 1 silver, and 5 bronze medals, with an overall score of 157 points. Iran claimed the Championship Trophy.

Jannik Sinner Wins First Wimbledon Title

Jannik Sinner won his first Wimbledon title by defeating two-time champion Carlos Alcaraz. This was a big moment in tennis, as it showed how strong the rivalry between the two young stars has become. The win also gave Sinner his fourth Grand Slam title and ended many winning streaks held by Alcaraz.

Iga Swiatek Wins Wimbledon Title

Iga Swiatek from Poland won her first Wimbledon title beating Amanda Anisimova of the United States in just 57 minutes. The final score was 6-0, 6-0, making it one of the most one-sided women's finals in tennis history. This match was important because it added another major title to Swiatek's record and made history with a rare "double bagel" win.
This win gave Swiatek her sixth Grand Slam title, and her first-ever win on grass, making her the only active female player to win major titles on clay, hard, and grass courts.

Prasar Bharati Signs MoU to Promote Handball in India

Prasar Bharati signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Handball Association of India (HAI) to produce and broadcast all national and international handball events. The agreement, aimed at boosting handball's popularity in India, will help showcase the sport on DD Sports, Waves OTT, and other public broadcasting platforms.
The agreement was officially exchanged between Gaurav Dwivedi, CEO of Prasar Bharati, and Anandeshwar Pande, Executive Director of HAI.

On the final day of the Europe Qualifiers for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026, Italy and the Netherlands secured their spots in next year's (2026) tournament, which will be hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Ireland batter Peter Moor announced his retirement from international cricket at the age of 35. He made 85 international appearances before calling time on his career.
He started his international career with Zimbabwe before moving to Ireland. He played his last international match in February 2025 in the one-off Test against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo.

India to Host Shooting World Cup in 2027 and Junior Worlds in 2028

India will host the Shooting World Cup in 2027 and the Junior World Championship in 2028, as announced by the National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) in July 2025. The decision was made by the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF). These events are a big step in making India a major center for global shooting competitions.

Kishor Kumar Sadhak Makes History with Rare Feat

Spin bowler Kishor Kumar Sadhak created history by claiming two hat-tricks in game, that too in back-to-back overs. Playing for Ipswich and Colchester Cricket Club in UK, Sadhak, an Ipswich resident, ended the Two Counties Championship Division Six game with figures of 6-21 in the win over Kesgrave.

India Drops to 133rd in FIFA Rankings, Worst Since 2016

India's ranking fell from 127 to 133 in the latest FIFA rankings, released in July 2025. The slide happened after India lost 0-2 to Thailand in a friendly match in June, and then 0-1 to lower-ranked Hong Kong during the Asian Cup qualifiers. These losses also led to the departure of head coach Manolo Marquez, who parted ways with the All India Football Federation (AIFF).
India's rating points also dropped from 1132.03 to 1113.22. Among Asian nations, India now ranks 24th out of 46, while Japan leads the continent at 17th place in the world rankings.

Verbeek and Siniakova Win Wimbledon Mixed Doubles Title

Czech Katerina Siniakova and Sem Verbeek of the Netherlands claimed the Wimbledon mixed doubles title, defeating Britain's Joe Salisbury and Brazilian Luisa Stefani 7-6(3) 7-6(3).
Siniakova is a 10-time Grand Slam women's doubles champion from the Czech Republic.
