Eminent Surgeon Mathangi Ramakrishnan Passes Away at 91

Dr. K. Mathangi Ramakrishnan one of India's most distinguished plastic and reconstructive surgeons, passed away at the age of 91. Revered for her pioneering work in burn care and plastic surgery, she was a trailblazer who established the first government-run comprehensive burns unit in South India at Government Kilpauk Medical College (KMC), Chennai. Her career was marked by a deep blend of clinical brilliance, innovation, and compassion, especially for underprivileged patients.
She held several academic positions and received numerous awards, including the Padma Shri, BC Roy award, and the Avvaiyar award from the Tamil Nadu govt. Amidst all this, she never stopped learning.

Thailand's Queen Mother Sirikit Passes Away

Thailand's Queen Mother Sirikit, one of the country's most respected and beloved royal figures, passed away at the age of 93.
Queen Sirikit had largely withdrawn from public life in recent years due to declining health. Her passing marks the end of a remarkable era in Thailand's modern history.
Born on August 12, 1932, in Bangkok, Sirikit Kitiyakara came from a noble and aristocratic family connected to the Chakri dynasty. She was the daughter of Prince Nakkhatra Mangkala Kitiyakara, who served as Thailand's ambassador to France after World War II.

Piyush Pandey, the legendary architect of Indian advertising and Padma Shri awardee, passed away at the age of 70. Known for transforming Ogilvy India into a global powerhouse, Pandey revolutionised advertising by blending Hindi, colloquial phrases, and relatable Indian emotions into campaigns. Some of his iconic works include Asian Paints' "Har khushi mein rang laaye," Cadbury's "Kuch Khaas Hai," Fevicol, and Hutch ads, which became cultural touchstones. He also co-created the memorable political slogan "Ab ki baar, Modi sarkar."

Veteran space scientist and Padma Bhushan awardee Professor Eknath Vasant Chitnis, one of the earliest architects of India's space programme, passed away at the age of 100.
A close associate of Dr. Vikram Sarabhai, Chitnis was instrumental in shaping the Indian National Committee for Space Research (INCOSPAR), which evolved into today's Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
