India Begins Construction of First indigenously built Hovercraft for Indian Coast Guard

  • The construction of the country's first indigenously built Air Cushion Vehicle (ACV) for the Indian Coast Guard kicked off with the girder laying and commencement of the erection ceremony at the shipyard of Chowgule & Company Pvt. Ltd. in Goa.
  • The hovercraft, based on proven Griffon lioveiwork designs, are being built with Indian expertise to suit varied coastal security operations. Once inducted, the ACVs will provide enhanced speed, tactical flexibility, and shallow-water operability, enabling swift response for patrolling, interdiction, and search and rescue missions across India's vast maritime frontier.
  • The construction of the hovercraft follows a contract signed with the Ministry of Defence, for six ACVs, underscoring the ICG's drive towards operational self-reliance under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Agniveers to Be Part of Tiger Protection Force after Serving in Army: Uttarakhand Chief Minister

  • Agniveers will be inducted in the Tiger Protection Force in Uttarakhand's Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR) after completing their four-year term in the Army, Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said.
  • Dhami said that more than 80 youngsters will be inducted in the force that is being set up with the aim of strengthening the mechanism to protect tigers and their habitat.
  • The prime function of the force would be to prevent the poaching of tigers. Trained jawans would patrol forest areas, collect intelligence and take strict action against poachers.

Indian Coast Guard Gets Fast Patrol Vessel 'Atal'

  • The Indian Coast Guard's sixth indigenously built Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV), 'Atal', was launched at Goa Shipyard Ltd (GSL), Goa. The vessel was launched by Shilpa Agarwal in the presence of Rozy Agarwal, IDAS, PIFA, Coast Guard Headquarters. The launch marked a significant milestone in India's pursuit of self-reliance in defence manufacturing. 'Atal' enhances the Indian Coast Guard's operational capabilities in coastal security, anti-smuggling efforts, and maritime rescue operations.

Indian Navy Participates in SIMBEX

  • The Indian Navy is participating in the 32nd edition of SIMBEX (Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise) in Singapore, continuing a long-standing tradition of maritime cooperation with the Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN). This exercise reflects India's growing naval engagements in Southeast Asia under its Act East Policy and Vision SAGAR, aligning defence and diplomacy in the Indo-Pacific.
  • SIMBEX began in 1994 and is one of India's longest uninterrupted naval bilateral exercises. It was originally named Exercise Lion King.
  • The 32nd edition of the Singapore-India Maritime Bilateral Exercise (SIMBEX) 2025 is taking place from July 28 to August 2, 2025.

Operation Mahadev: Indian Security Forces Neutralise Terrorists of Pahalgam Attack

  • The Indian Army, in coordination with the CRPF and Jammu and Kashmir Police, launched a high-intensity counter-terrorism mission codenamed Operation Mahadev in the Dara region near Dachigam National Park, Jammu and Kashmir. Acting on credible intelligence inputs about terrorist movement, security forces engaged in a fierce encounter, resulting in the elimination of three Pakistani terrorists belonging to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
  • This anti-terror drive is also linked to ongoing efforts to track down perpetrators of the April 22 Pahalgam attack, which claimed 26 lives.
  • According to SSP Srinagar G. V. Sundeep Chakravarty, the neutralised militants were all Pakistani nationals and affiliated with Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT). While their direct involvement in the Pahalgam attack is yet to be confirmed, investigations are ongoing to ascertain their exact role.

India-Singapore Joint Military Exercise in Jodhpur

  • An India-Singapore joint military exercise that seeks to enhance interoperability and joint training capabilities of both armies under the UN mandate is taking place in Rajasthan's Jodhpur from July 27 to August 4.
  • The 14th edition of Exercise Bold Kurukshetra is witnessing the participation of the 42 Singapore Armoured Regiment of the 4 Singapore Armoured Brigade and the Indian Army's Mechanised Infantry Regiment.
  • The exercise is being conducted as a tabletop exercise and computer-based wargame, aimed at validating operational procedures for mechanised warfare.

AHRR Hosts First-Ever Armed Forces National Conference 'SHAPE 2025' on Sustainable Hospital Planning

  • The Department of Hospital Administration at Army Hospital Research & Referral (AHRR), New Delhi, successfully organised the first-ever Armed Forces National Conference, SHAPE 2025: Sustainable Hospital Architecture, Planning, Infrastructure and Equipment. Over 275 experts from the Armed Forces and civil domains including hospital administrators, doctors, nurses, engineers, and architects deliberated on the challenges and future roadmap for creating sustainable, resilient, and patient-friendly hospital infrastructure in India. The pioneering Continuing Medical Education (CME) event was inaugurated by Director General Armed Forces Medical Services (DGAFMS) Surg Vice Admiral Arti Sarin and Director, AIIMS (New Delhi) Dr. M. Srinivas, along with several dignitaries.
  • SHAPE 2025 outlined a framework for integrating green technologies, such as solar energy, rainwater harvesting, disaster-resilient design, and zero-emission infrastructure. Emphasis was also laid on achieving GRIHA ratings, CFEES certification, and adopting ergonomically designed, healing architecture. The two-day event fostered collaboration across domains and laid the foundation for a comprehensive doctrine on Sustainable Hospital Infrastructure, Architecture, Planning & Equipment Management.
