Rajanth Singh Inaugurates National Conference on Defence Manufacturing in New Delhi

  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh inaugurated a national-level conference on 'Opportunities in Defence Manufacturing in the Country' at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.
  • Organised under the aegis of the Department of Defence Production, Ministry of Defence (MoD), the conference aimed to provide a focused platform for strengthening coordination between the MoD and State/Union Territory governments. The objective is to align regional industrial policies and infrastructure development with the national goal of achieving self-reliance in defence manufacturing.
  • During the event, the Defence Minister launched the new Defence Exim Portal, designed to streamline the issuance of export and import authorisations. In addition, the Srijan DEEP (Defence Establishments and Entrepreneurs Platform) portal, a digital repository mapping the capabilities and products of Indian defence industries, was also unveiled.

  • The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) released an Indian radio software architecture to enable interoperability in military communication.
  • The defence ministry described the launch as a "defining step" in India's journey towards self-reliance in defence communication technologies.

ICGS Akshar Commissioned: Boost to Coast Guard Fleet

  • The Indian Coast Guard Ship (ICGS) Akshar was officially commissioned at Karaikal, Puducherry, marking a significant milestone in India's journey towards maritime self-reliance. Designed and built by Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), this vessel represents the growing indigenous capabilities of India's defence sector under the umbrella of the 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' and 'Make in India' initiatives.
  • ICGS Akshar is the second vessel in the Adamya-class of Fast Patrol Vessels (FPVs), a series of eight ships built for high-speed patrolling and coastal surveillance duties.
  • The ship features over 60% indigenous components, reflecting India's push for localisation in defence manufacturing.

Indian Coast Guard Conducts 10th NATPOLREX off Chennai Coast

  • The Indian Coast Guard (ICG) successfully conducted the 10th National Level Pollution Response Exercise (NATPOLREX-X) along with the 27th National Oil Spill Disaster Contingency Plan (NOSDCP) and Preparedness Meeting off the coast of Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The large-scale biennial exercise reaffirmed India's commitment to safeguarding its marine environment and strengthening inter-agency coordination for effective oil spill management.
  • The event saw participation from 40 foreign observers representing 32 countries and over 105 national delegates from central ministries, coastal states, ports, oil handling agencies, and maritime organisations. It was held under the overall supervision of Director General Paramesh Sivamani, Chairperson, NOSDCP, and Director General, Indian Coast Guard, who reviewed the operational readiness and inter-agency synergy during the drills.

India, UK Navies Launch Mega Wargame 'Exercise Konkan'

  • The Indian Navy and the Royal Navy commenced the eight-day bilateral Exercise Konkan-25 in the Western Indian Ocean, reinforcing growing maritime cooperation between the two nations. Over the past two decades, this exercise has expanded in scale and complexity, fostering enhanced interoperability, strategic understanding, and mutual trust in maritime operations.
  • This year's edition sees participation from the UK Carrier Strike Group (UK CSG 25), led by HMS Prince of Wales, including assets from Norway and Japan, while India is represented by the carrier battle group of its indigenous aircraft carrier INS Vikrant, along with other surface, sub-surface, and air combatants.
  • The exercise is aimed at increasing combined maritime and air capabilities between the UK and Indian navies on the high seas.
  • The exercise is being conducted in two phases from October 5-12. The harbour phase of the Exercise includes professional interactions between naval personnel, cross deck visits, sports fixtures, and cultural engagements. Additionally, Joint Working Group meetings and Subject Matter Expert Exchanges are also scheduled.
  • The sea phase will encompass complex maritime operational drills focusing on anti-air, anti-surface, and anti-submarine exercises, flying operations and other seamanship evolutions. Both participating nations will deploy frontline assets, including aircraft carriers, destroyers, frigates, submarines, and integral and shore based air assets.

Indian Navy Commissions Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft Andorth

  • The Indian Navy commissioned Androth, the second Anti-Submarine Warfare Shallow Water Craft (ASW-SWC), at a ceremonial event at the Visakhapatnam Naval Dockyard.
  • The ceremony was presided over by Vice Admiral Rajesh Pendharkar, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command.
  • Built by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata, Androth is a testimony to India's growing maritime self-reliance with over 80 per cent indigenous content.

Zuppa Geo Navigation Inks Agreement with IIT Madras, Indian Air Force to Undertake Defence R&D

  • Chennai-based deep tech firm Zuppa Geo Navigation Technologies, in 2025, announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with IIT-Madras and the 8 Base Repair Depot (8 BRD) of the Indian Air Force, to jointly undertake in-house Research & Development (R&D) in defence technologies.
  • The partnership will leverage the deep-tech expertise of Zuppa Geo Navigation Technologies in UAVs and navigation systems with the research and innovation ecosystem of IIT-Madras, and the operational experience and domain knowledge of the Indian Air Force's 8 BRD.
  • Through the MoU, the three stakeholders will focus on developing practical solutions that enhance operational efficiency, autonomy, and resilience in defence aviation and related systems.

Goodluck India Signs Tripartite Agreement to Bid for DRDO's Aircraft Programme

  • Special steel maker Goodluck India, in October 2025, announced a tripartite agreement to jointly bid for defence research organisation DRDO's advanced medium combat aircraft programme.
  • It signed the agreement with BrahMos Aerospace Thiruvananthapuram Ltd (BATL) and Axiscades Technologies.
  • Goodluck India signed a tripartite Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to jointly bid for the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO)'s Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA) programme.
