Liverpool Crowned 2024-25 Premier League Champions

Liverpool FC clinched their 20th English league title with a commanding 5–1 victory over North London rivals Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield.
Goals from midfielders Cody Gakpo and Alexis Mac Allister, alongside strikes from forward Luis Díaz and the ever-reliable Egyptian King, Mohamed Salah, powered the Reds to their second Premier League title—marking their first since the historic triumph in 2020. Tottenham's only consolation came from Dominic Solanke.

India Sweeps 2nd Asian Yogasana Sport Championship with 83 Gold Medals

India put on a stellar performance at the 2nd Asian Yogasana Sport Championship, dominating the competition with an impressive 83 gold medals.
The three-day championship, held at the K. D. Jadhav Arena, Indira Gandhi Sports Complex in New Delhi, saw participation from over 21 countries, including Japan, Mongolia, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Uzbekistan, and more. India claimed the top spot, while Japan followed with 3 golds, 3 silvers, and 4 bronzes. Mongolia, Oman, and Nepal completed the top five in the medal tally.
Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Kazakhstan, and Bhutan also made notable contributions with their strong performances, further illustrating the rising presence of Yogasana as a competitive sport across Asia, according to statement from the Sports Authority of India (SAI).

Chandigarh golfer Angad Cheema dominated the final round with a six-under 66 and won the Kapil Dev Grant Thornton Invitational 2025 played at the Prestige Golfshire Club in Bengaluru.

Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya Launches Issuance of Sports Certificates via DigiLocker

Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports and Labour & Employment, Mansukh Mandaviya launched the issuance of sports certificates via DigiLocker at the Indira Gandhi Stadium in New Delhi.
Mandaviya reaffirmed the Government's commitment to athlete welfare, stating that all sports initiatives undertaken by Modi Government are athlete-centric.
He announced that sports certificates issued via DigiLocker will soon be integrated with the National Sports Repository System (NSRS), enabling automatic disbursal of Government cash rewards directly into athletes' bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), eliminating the need for paper applications.

Animesh Sets New Men's 200m National Record

Animesh Kujur from Odisha broke the three-year-old 200m National record, clocking an impressive 20.40s, at the Federation Cup at Kochi's Maharaja College Stadium.
He had broken the Indian national record, set two years ago, by 0.12 seconds.

Rohit Sharma Becomes Second Indian to Reach 12,000 Runs in T20s

Rohit Sharma, the opening batsman for Mumbai Indians (MI), became the second Indian cricketer after Virat Kohli to score 12,000 runs in T20 cricket. This milestone was reached during the IPL 2025 match between Mumbai Indians and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). Rohit's achievement places him among the elite group of cricketers who have scored over 12,000 runs in the shortest format of the game, making him the eighth batter overall to do so.

South Asian (SAAF) Senior Athletics Championships 2025 Postponed

The South Asian Senior Athletics Championships 2025, originally scheduled for May 3 to 5, 2025 in Ranchi, Jharkhand, were postponed for the second time in seven months. Initially planned for October 2024, the delay this time has reportedly been due to visa clearance issues involving Pakistani athletes. The event was expected to host top athletes from across South Asia, including Olympic champion Arshad Nadeem of Pakistan and top Sri Lankan athletes. The new tentative window for the competition is now the second or third week of June 2025, subject to visa resolution.

The Tamil Nadu sprinter clocked 56.04 seconds and finished ahead of her competitors with a strong finish.
In the men's 400m hurdles, Karnataka's Yashas P clocked 49.32 seconds and won the gold medal. However, he failed to qualify for the Asian Championships as the qualifying mark was set at 49.19 seconds.
