Justice Harpreet Singh Brar Appointed as Permanent Judge Of Punjab & Haryana High Court

  • The President appointed Justice Harpreet Singh Brar as a permanent judge of the Punjab & Haryana High Court. Justice Brar was sworn in as an Additional Judge of Punjab and Haryana High Court in April 2023. Hailing from the village of Phulewala in District Sri Muktsar Sahib, Justice Brar served as Additional Advocate General of Punjab from 2009 to 2014. He also served as Panel Counsel for various state agencies, including the Punjab Urban Planning & Development Authority, Greater Mohali Area Development Authority, Punjab Pollution Control Board, and Punjab State Civil Supplies Corporation, among others.

Supreme Court to Have 3 CJIs & 7 Retirements in 2025

  • In 2025, the Supreme Court will be functioning under three Chief Justices and witness a wave of retirements- a total of seven.
  • The incumbent Chief Justice of India, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, is set to demit office on May 13, 2025. The next in line to be the CJI is Justice B. R. Gavai, who will have a term till November 23. Justice Surya Kant is in line to take over the mantle after Justice Gavai's retirement as the CJI.
