Centre Extends PM E-Drive Scheme by 2 Years

  • The Central government extended the PM E-Drive scheme for electric buses, ambulances, and trucks by two years to March 2028. According to a gazette notification issued by the Union Ministry of Heavy Industries, the scheme will now lapse in March 2028 instead of March 2026.
  • Fund allocation for the scheme has been maintained at Rs. 10,900 crore, and no additional allocation will be made under the scheme.

Assam CM Launches 'Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina 2.0 Scheme

  • Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the Mukhya Mantrir Nijut Moina 2.0 scheme, a flagship initiative aimed at promoting girls' enrolment in higher education through monthly financial assistance. The scheme was formally launched at the Birinchi Kumar Barua Auditorium, Gauhati University.
  • The Nijut Moina scheme is designed to empower girls and reduce dropout rates by providing consistent financial support, enabling them to pursue education from the Higher Secondary (HS) level to postgraduate (PG) studies. The scheme is inclusive—girls from all families, regardless of economic background, are eligible to benefit.

Parliament Passes the Carriage of Goods by Sea Bill 2025

  • The Parliament passed the Carriage of Goods by Sea Bill, 2025, with the Rajya Sabha approving it. The Bill was already passed by the Lok Sabha. The Bill seeks to replace the Indian Carriage of Goods by Sea Act, 1925. The Act establishes the responsibilities, liabilities, rights, and immunities in case of goods carried from a port. The legislation empowers the central government to issue directions for carrying out provisions of the Bill, and amend the schedule specifying rules applicable to bills of lading. A bill of lading refers to a document issued by a freight carrier to a shipper. It contains details such as the type, quantity, condition, and destination of goods being carried.

  • The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has launched 'Apna Ghar', a nationwide initiative providing truck drivers with hygienic and safe resting spaces. As of July 2025, 368 units with 4,611 beds have been set up across highways, offering dormitories, dhabas, clean toilets, bathing areas, cooking. 
  • To improve the safety, health, and comfort of India's trucking workforce, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has rolled out a pioneering initiative called 'Apna Ghar'. Launched nationwide, the programme provides hygienic and comfortable resting facilities for truck drivers along major highways, marking a crucial step towards ensuring better living conditions for those who drive the backbone of India's economy.

Cabinet Enhances Budgetary Allocation for PMKSY to Rs. 6,520 Crore

  • The Union Cabinet approved a major increase in the budget for the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Sampada Yojana (PMKSY), raising its allocation by Rs. 1,920 crore to a total of Rs. 6,520 crore. The move, taken under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, aims to give a significant boost to India's food processing sector by creating modern infrastructure and ensuring better food safety standards.
  • Launched in 2017, the PMKSY has been a key initiative to strengthen India's food processing capacity and reduce post-harvest losses.
