Singapore Confers Honorary Citizenship on Tarun Das
Singapore has awarded its highest honor for non-citizens, the Honorary Citizen Award, to Tarun Das, former Director General of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), in recognition of his significant contributions to strengthening Singapore-India relations.
Tarun Das has been instrumental in fostering robust economic and people-to-people connections between Singapore and India over several decades. In 1993, he led a delegation of Indian industrialists to Singapore, marking a pivotal moment in India's "Look East" policy. This initiative laid the groundwork for annual visits by the CII Core Group to Singapore, facilitating continuous engagement between political leaders and businesses from both nations.

President Droupadi Murmu Confers Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Awards
President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman awards during the valedictory session of the PBD Convention in Odisha.
A highlight of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) convention is the presentation of the Pravasi Bharatiya Samman Award (PBSA). As many as 27 individuals and organisations were honoured this year from countries like the US, Fiji, Guyana, Mauritius, Moldova, Myanmar, Russia and Saudi Arabia.
The Ministry of External Affairs had announced the names of the awardees for this year (2025). The awardees include among others Baroness Usha Kumari Prashar from the UK in the field of politics, Dr Sharmila Ford from the US for community service, and Dr. Syed Anwar Khursheed from Saudi Arabia in the field of Medical Science.
This prestigious honour is conferred upon Non-Resident Indians, Persons of Indian Origin, or organisations established and run by them.

Lionel Messi Honoured with the US Presidential Medal of Freedom
Lionel Messi, captain of the Argentina men's football team and one of the greatest footballers of all time, was honoured with the United States Presidential Medal of Freedom, the country's highest civilian award. This recognition marks a significant milestone in his illustrious career, making him the first male footballer to receive this prestigious honour. Messi, however, could not attend the ceremony held at the White House due to prior commitments.
Lionel Messi is now part of an elite group, as the second footballer ever to receive the US Presidential Medal of Freedom. The first was Megan Rapinoe, an American women's football star, who was honoured in 2022.

Sai Paranjpye Named Recipiemnt for Padmapani Lifetime Achievement Award
Sai Paranjpye, a legendary director and writer in Indian cinema, is set to be honored with the Padmapani Lifetime Achievement Award at the upcoming Ajanta-Ellora International Film Festival (AIFF) 2025. Known for her impactful slice-of-life films such as Sparsh, Chashme Buddoor, Katha, and Saaz, Paranjpye is regarded as a pillar of India's parallel cinema movement, which gained prominence in the 1970s and 1980s. The award recognizes her extensive contributions to both Indian cinema and Marathi literature. The 10th edition of the festival is scheduled to take place in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar from January 15 to 19, 2025, where Paranjpye will be conferred with the prestigious award.
Shreya Rastogi Wins Prestigious Award by the New York Legal Aid Society
Director of Litigation and Forensics at Project 39A, Shreya Rastogi was awarded the New York Legal Aid Society's 2024 Magnus Mukoro Award for Integrity in Forensic Science for extraordinary accomplishments in the field of forensics.
Shreya Rastogi is a founding member of Project 39A, a criminal justice initiative at National Law University, Delhi. She is at the forefront of research and litigation efforts to ensure that scientific and reliable forensic disciplines are used in India's criminal justice system. She is the first non-American and the first Indian to receive this prestigious award that was instituted in 2015 by the New York Legal Aid Society (LAS).
