Central Industrial Security Force Creates First-ever All-women Commando Unit

In a significant policy initiative aimed at encouraging women empowerment in the organisation, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) is all set to induct its first-ever -All-Women Commando Team' into its core operations. Training of women commandos has already begun at the Regional Training Centre (RTC) in Barwaha, Madhya Pradesh.
The specially designed eight-week-long advanced commando course for the women personnel will prepare them for Quick Reaction Teams (CRT) and Special Task Force (STF) duties at high security establishments and installations guarded by the force. The programme includes physical fitness and weapons training, live-fire drills under stress, endurance-building exercises like running, obstacle courses, rappelling, survival training in forests, and other methods designed to test decision-making and teamwork under adverse conditions.
The first batch of 30 women personnel, who are currently deployed across various airports—will undergo training up to October 4, which began earlier this month. The second batch of women personnel will undergo the training from October 6 to November 29.

Indian Navy Commissions Stealth Frigates Udaygiri and Himgiri

In a landmark moment, the Indian Navy commissioned two cutting-edge Nilgiri-class stealth frigates - INS Udaygiri and INS Himgiri - each equipped with 8 BrahMos missiles. These 6,700-tonne warships significantly enhance India's maritime strike capabilities. This is the first time two major surface combatants built by different Indian shipyards were inducted simultaneously, signalling a major leap in naval modernisation and defence self-reliance.
Udaygiri is built by Mazagon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, Mumbai and Himgiri is constructed by Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers, Kolkata.

India Partners with France's Safran to Build Jet Engines for Next-Gen Fighter Aircraft

In a move aimed at bolstering India's aerospace self-reliance, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh announced a strategic partnership between India and French aerospace major Safran to co-develop and manufacture jet engines domestically. These engines will power the upcoming Advanced Medium Combat Aircraft (AMCA)—India's indigenously designed fifth-generation stealth fighter jet.
This collaboration reflects not just technology transfer but a long-term investment in defence manufacturing and innovation, enhancing India's capability to develop cutting-edge aerospace systems.

Iran Conducts "Sustainable Power 1404" Missile Drills in Gulf of Oman

In a show of strategic strength, Iran conducted a large-scale missile drill titled 'Sustainable Power 1404' in the northern Indian Ocean and the Gulf of Oman.
Notably, precision-strike cruise missiles, such as Nasir and Qadir, were deployed during the exercise, showcasing Iran's long-range targeting capabilities.

SpaceX Launches Secretive US Military Spacecraft

A SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket blasted into space carrying the US military's secretive X-37B drone.
As per the US Space Force, the drone's mission includes a wide range of test and experimentation objectives.
These operational demonstrations and experiments comprise next-generation technologies including laser communications and the highest performing quantum inertial sensor ever tested in space.

South Korea and the US Hold Joint Military Exercise Ulchi Freedom Shield

South Korea and the United States are holding their annual large-scale joint military exercise Ulchi Freedom Shield to better cope with threats by nuclear-armed North Korea, which has warned the drills would deepen regional tensions and vowed to respond to any provocation against its territory.
The 11-day (August 18 to 28) Ulchi Freedom Shield, the second of two large-scale exercises held annually in South Korea, involves 21,000 soldiers, including 18,000 South Koreans.
Ulchi Freedom Shield is designed to improve joint operational readiness. It focuses on computer-simulated command post exercises and field training. The drills prepare forces to counter nuclear, missile, drone, and other unconventional attacks. The allies describe the exercise as defensive rather than offensive.

Government Approves Procurement of 97 Tejas Jets for IAF

The government approved the proposed procurement of 97 Light Combat Aircraft Tejas fighter jets and six advanced airborne early-warning and control (AEW&C) aircraft for the Indian Air Force at a cost around Rs. 85,000 crore.
The two procurement projects were given the green light by the Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS) headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Tejas jets will be procured at a cost of around Rs. 67,000 crore while the AEW&C project will cost the exchequer around Rs. 18,000 crore.
