CM Majhi Launches Harichandan’s New Books

Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi unveiled two new books authored by veteran politician and former Governor Biswabhusan Harichandan at a ceremony in Bhubaneswar. The event celebrated Odisha’s political and cultural legacy and recognised Harichandan’s long public life. Dignitaries, scholars and political leaders attended, marking a significant literary and political occasion. The Chief Minister described the launch as a proud moment for the state, emphasising that the author’s life and values were as important as the books themselves. Harichandan has played a pivotal role in Odisha politics, including as founding president of the BJP’s Odisha unit and four-time holder of the post.

President Murmu to inaugurate Bastar Pandum-2026 in Jagdalpur

President Droupadi Murmu will arrive in Jagdalpur, Bastar district, Chhattisgarh, on 7 February 2026 for a one-day visit. She will inaugurate the Bastar Pandum Festival at Lalbagh Ground and address a programme. Chhattisgarh Governor Ramen Deka and Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai will accompany her at the inauguration. The Bastar Pandum Festival runs from 7 to 9 February, with divisional-level competitions. More than 700 artists from 84 teams will showcase performances across 12 disciplines, including tribal dances, handicrafts, traditional cuisine and indigenous musical instruments. Bastar Pandum celebrates tribal traditions and strengthens cultural ties for younger generations.

Bharat Rang Mahotsav 25th edition opens in Rohtak

Bharat Rang Mahotsav, the world’s largest international theatre festival, opens its 25th edition in Rohtak from 9 to 12 February 2026. The festival will be staged at the Dada Lakhmi Chand State University of Performing and Visual Arts, strengthening Haryana’s cultural profile. Organized by the National School of Drama in collaboration with the university, the event will showcase plays from Indian and international theatre groups, spanning diverse styles and languages. Sacred Devnimori Buddha Relics travel to Sri Lanka for week-long exposition

India’s sacred Devnimori Relics of Lord Buddha travel abroad for the first time for a week-long exposition in Sri Lanka. A high-level Indian delegation led by Gujarat Governor Acharya Devvrat and Deputy Chief Minister Harsh Sanghavi accompanies the relics to Colombo, where they will be enshrined at Gangaramaya Temple from today through 10 February. Assam to preserve Darrang kings heritage with Rs 50 crore grant

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced a Rs 50 crore grant to preserve the heritage of the Darrang kings, promising restoration and development of the Koch dynasty’s royal legacy as a major tourism hub. The pledge was made during the 516th Biswa Mahabir Chilarai Divas celebrations in Pipora Dookan, Darrang district. The administration will undertake immediate heritage restoration work under the supervision of the Public Works Department. The CM unveiled the statue of Maharaj Krishnanarayan of the Darrang kingdom and inaugurated Chilarai Bhawans at Mangaldoi and Golaghat, underscoring Assam’s commitment to protect its historical identity.

Gyan Bharatam to preserve India’s manuscript heritage with ₹491.66 crore funding

Gyan Bharatam, a flagship Union Budget 2025–26 initiative, seeks to preserve and revitalise India’s manuscript heritage. Implemented by the Ministry of Culture, the program aligns with the Viksit Bharat 2047 vision by integrating cultural conservation with human capital development. The Standing Finance Committee has approved ₹491.66 crore for 2025–2031 to support digitisation, conservation, and research. The initiative targets thousands of manuscripts across languages, with centres and clusters contributing to a national digital repository. The government emphasises combining traditional knowledge with modern technology to safeguard manuscripts for future generations.
