11th NITI Aayog Governing Council meeting held in New Delhi; focus on inclusive development

The 11th Governing Council Meeting of NITI Aayog was held in June 2026 in New Delhi, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi chairing the session at the Rashtrapati Bhavan Cultural Centre. The theme was Inclusive Human Development for Viksit Bharat @2047. Chief Ministers and Lieutenant Governors participated to discuss development priorities, skilling, entrepreneurship, health, equity, and governance. The meeting underscored cooperative federalism and policy reforms to accelerate human development and inclusive growth. Zojila Tunnel Reaches Final Breakthrough

India's Zojila Tunnel project achieved its final breakthrough in June 2026, marking a major milestone in the country's infrastructure development. Located at an altitude of over 11,500 feet, it will become the world's longest single-tube bi-directional road tunnel. The project will provide all-weather connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh, reducing travel disruptions caused by heavy snowfall. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari attended the breakthrough ceremony. The tunnel is expected to strengthen tourism, trade, and strategic military movement in the region, while shortening travel times and improving emergency response in northern border areas.

Vipul appointed India’s Ambassador to Saudi Arabia

Senior diplomat Vipul has been appointed as India's ambassador to Saudi Arabia. A 1998-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, he brings extensive diplomatic experience to the role. Chumur Model Border Village chosen under Vibrant Villages Programme

Chumur village in eastern Ladakh has been selected as Ladakh’s first Model Border Village under the Vibrant Villages Programme. The foundation stone was laid by Ladakh Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena. Chumur sits at about 16,700 feet along the India–China border. The project aims to improve housing, livelihood opportunities, tourism, renewable energy, and civic infrastructure in the remote border region. It will support local communities involved in Pashmina rearing and production. The initiative forms part of a broader plan to strengthen frontier villages and improve living conditions in border areas, with a central service core including a school, PHC, and more.

Mission Senehjori Aims to Transform Muga Silk

Mission Senehjori seeks to transform Assam's Muga silk sector into a globally competitive luxury ecosystem. The initiative, renowned for its natural golden colour and durability, is being implemented under the Atmanirbhar North East vision with support from the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, the Ministry of Textiles and the Government of Assam. The mission aims to increase the incomes of silk rearers and weavers, strengthen value chains, improve market access, and preserve Assam's textile heritage. It envisions Muga silk as a premium global product while blending traditional craft with modern economic strategies.
