C-DOT and IIT Bombay Unite for Indigenous 6G Optical Chipset

India Unveils 'Utkarsh' as Second Multi-Purpose Vessel

  • Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has successfully launched the second multi-purpose vessel (MPV) for the Indian Navy, named INS Utkarsh. The launch took place at the Kattupalli Shipyard near Chennai. This event marks India's advancements in indigenous shipbuilding as part of the Aatmanirbhar Bharat mission. The launch occurred within three months of the first MPV, INS Samarthak, demonstrating L&T's accelerated production capabilities.
  • The event was graced by Rajesh Kumar Singh, Defence Secretary, along with senior officials from the Indian Navy and L&T Shipyard. The vessel, named 'Utkarsh', signifies a leap forward in India's indigenous shipbuilding capabilities and aligns with the country's broader vision of self-reliance in defence manufacturing.

Pixxel and Digantara Launch Satellites for Earth and Space Monitoring

  • In a significant achievement for India's private space sector, two Indian start-ups, Pixxel and Digantara, launched their satellites aboard a SpaceX rocket.  These pioneering missions are aimed at addressing pressing global challenges such as agriculture, defence, and space sustainability. Pixxel's launch introduces a constellation of satellites for advanced Earth observation, while Digantara's SCOT satellite focuses on real-time tracking of space objects.

ISRO Successfully Docks Satellites, Enters Elite Club

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully docked two satellites in space, marking India as the fourth country to achieve this feat after the United States, Russia, and China. 
  • The docking process, part of the SpaDeX (Space Docking Exercise) mission, demonstrates ISRO's capability to conduct autonomous satellite docking. This milestone is critical for future missions like Chandrayaan-4 and the planned Bharatiya Antariksh Station.

IIT Bhilai Unveils Anti-Fraud Device, Aiming To Secure UPI, E-Commerce and Banking

  • Cyber fraud has become one of the biggest problems people face these days in India and around the world. To address this growing issue, IIT Bhilai has made an innovation. A team from IIT Bhilai created a device that is claimed to make online monetary transactions more secure. It is said that, with the use of this device, transactions from UPI, e-commerce, and net banking will become more secure. This device, which resembles a pen drive, is named 'Trust Token'. Given the increase in cyber fraud cases in recent years, this device could be of great use.
  • Dr Dhiman Saha, Principal Investigator of the 'Trust Token' Project and a faculty member of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering at IIT Bhilai, stated that the first phase of this device, being developed in different stages, has been completed. The work on the second phase is also nearing completion. Dr Saha explained that the device looks like a pen drive, but it functions as a dongle that adds an extra security layer. As long as this device is not connected to a computer, laptop, or mobile device, no transaction will be possible.

ISRO to Launch Communication Satellite of US-Based Firm AST SpaceMobile

  • The Indian Space Research Organisation's (ISRO) LVM3 rocket will launch in March a communication satellite of a US-based firm AST SpaceMobile that plans to provide space-based cellular broadband network services on smartphones.
  • The commercial LVM3-M5 mission, set for March, will deploy BlueBird Block-2 satellites under a contract with the US-based AST SpaceMobile.
