Indian Newspaper Day

Every year on January 29, India observes Indian Newspaper Day, also known as National Newspaper Day to commemorate the introduction of the first newspaper in the pre-independence era. The origins of Indian Newspaper Day trace back to January 29, 1780, when James Augustus Hicky introduced the first printed newspaper in India, Hicky's Bengal Gazette. Also known as the Calcutta General Advertiser, this weekly publication was launched in Kolkata (then Calcutta) during the British Raj.
The theme of Indian Newspaper Day 2025 is "Role of Print Media in the Digital Age", focusing on the adaptation and relevance of print media in the digital age.

Data Privacy Day

Data Privacy Day observed annually on January 28, also known as Data Protection Day in Europe, is an occasion dedicated to raising awareness about online privacy and data protection.
It aims to educate individuals on how to safeguard their personal information and encourage a sense of responsibility towards privacy in the digital age.
Data Privacy Day was first established in 2006 by the Council of Europe to commemorate the anniversary of the signing of Convention 108, the world's first legally binding international treaty on data protection.
Since its inception, the day has grown into a global movement observed in over 100 countries, including the US and Canada. The event continues to play a vital role in raising awareness about the importance of data protection and privacy rights worldwide.
The theme for Data Privacy Day 2025 is "Take Control of Your Data".

International Customs Day

Every year January 26 marks International Customs Day, a moment to reflect on customs' pivotal role in global trade.
International Customs Day commemorates the inaugural session of the Customs Cooperation Council (C.C.C.) on January 26, 1953, where 17 founding members gathered to reshape global customs administration. Renamed the World Customs Organisation (WCO) in 1994 and headquartered in Brussels, Belgium, the organisation now champions global trade through standardised procedures, the management of the H.S. system, and initiatives promoting trade security.
Celebrated annually since 1983, International Customs Day highlights customs professionals' indispensable contributions to compliance, risk management, and duty optimisation, shaping secure and prosperous trading environments.
The theme for International Customs Day 2025 is "Customs Delivering on its Commitment to Efficiency, Security and Prosperity".

National Tourism Day

National Tourism Day, observed annually on January 25, serves to emphasise the significance of tourism in boosting the Indian economy, enhancing the nation's global reputation, and fostering cultural exchange.
National Tourism Day originated from the Government of India's efforts to highlight the role of tourism in driving economic growth and fostering cultural exchange. The first National Tourism Day was celebrated in 1948.
The theme for National Tourism Day 2025 is 'Tourism for Inclusive Growth.'

National Voters Day

National Voters Day (NVD), celebrated annually on January 25, honours the foundation of the Election Commission of India and aims to emphasise the importance of voting in a democracy. Instituted in 2011, this day encourages citizens, especially youth, to participate in the electoral process.
The first National Voters Day was celebrated on January 25, 2011, and since then, it has been an annual event.
This Year's Theme "Nothing Like Voting, I Vote for Sure" is a continuation of last year's theme emphasizing the importance of participation in the electoral process, and encouraging voters to take pride in exercising their franchise.

The International Day of Education is observed every year on January 24, highlighting the essential role education plays in promoting peace, development, and progress worldwide. This global event underscores the transformative power of education in building a better future and achieving international objectives.
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) established the International Day of Education on December 3, 2018 through Resolution 73/25. National Girl Child Day

National Girl Child Day, observed annually on January 24, is a pivotal occasion dedicated to raising awareness about the rights and potential of girls across the nation.
National Girl Child Day was initiated by the Ministry of Women and Child Development in India in 2008. The observance was established as part of efforts to combat critical issues such as child marriage, female foeticide, and gender inequality. It serves as a platform to raise awareness about the challenges girls face, while also promoting the importance of education, health, and nutrition for their overall development.
The 2025 theme, "Empowering Girls for a Bright Future," highlights the urgent need to support girls in realising their potential. It advocates for equal access to education, healthcare, and opportunities for personal and professional growth.

Uttar Pradesh's Foundation Day

Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended greetings to the people of Uttar Pradesh on the occasion of the state's Foundation Day, highlighting the rich cultural heritage and ongoing developmental progress.
Uttar Pradesh Foundation Day celebrations began in 2017, after then-Governor Ram Naik suggested the idea of marking January 24 as Uttar Pradesh Day. The state first observed its foundation day in 2018, marking 68 years since India's independence.
On January 24, 1950, the United Provinces officially became Uttar Pradesh, receiving statehood as part of India's post-independence reorganisation.
