Centre Approves New Missile Testing Range in Andhra Pradesh
The Cabinet Committee on Security (CCS), led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the establishment of a new missile testing range in Nagayalanka, Andhra Pradesh. This move is aimed at strengthening the country's defence capabilities, particularly in testing tactical missile systems.
As per reports, the new facility will support testing of surface-to-air missiles, anti-tank missiles, and other projects under the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO).

INS Talwar in South Africa Participate in IBSAMAR VIII Naval Exercise
The Indian Navy's frontline stealth frigate, "INS Talwar", docked at Simon's Town and is participating in the "eighth edition of IBSAMAR", a joint multinational maritime exercise involving the Indian, Brazilian, and South African navies. The exercise, scheduled from 06 to 18 October 2024, aims to enhance interoperability and strengthen naval ties between the three nations.
IBSAMAR VIII focuses on Blue Water Naval Warfare, including surface and anti-air warfare drills. The exercise underscores the commitment of the participating nations to a peaceful maritime domain and the promotion of a secure maritime environment.
The "harbour phase" of IBSAMAR VIII will involve a series of professional engagements, including damage control and firefighting drills, aviation safety lectures, joint diving operations, and interactive sessions on ocean governance. There will also be cross-deck visits, sports interactions, and special forces training, fostering close bonds and improving operational collaboration between the navies.

Army Commanders' Conference in Sikkim: Focus on Security amid China Tensions
The Second Army Commanders' Conference of 2024 was held in October in a hybrid format at a forward location in Gangtok, Sikkim. This significant gathering united senior leaders of the Indian Army and assessed the overall security situation, brainstormed conceptual issues, and strategised for future challenges.
The conference is being held in two phases. The first phase ran from October 10-11, 2024, in Gangtok, while the second phase is scheduled for October 28-29, 2024, in Delhi.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh delivered the keynote address at the Gangtok venue, where he outlined emerging security challenges facing the nation and the Army's strategic responses.

Indian Navy Commissions New Deep-Water Survey Vessel
The Indian Navy received its latest large Survey Vessel for deep water hydrographic mapping specially designed, Nirdeshak (Yard 3026), second of four Survey Vessel (Large) ships, steered by the Indian Navy's Warship Design Bureau and being built at Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata was delivered to the Indian Navy.
The first ship of the class, INS Sandhayak, was commissioned in Feb 2024.
The contract for four Survey Vessels (SVL) was signed in October 2018.

DRDO Chief Inaugurates Advanced Land-Based Submarine Battery Test Facility in Visakhapatnam
Based Submarine Battery Test Facility at NSTL, Visakhapatnam. Event was attended by DG (N&SM), Director NSTL and other senior scientists of NSTL.
This facility will cater to test submarine battery based on lithium Ion technology developed by NSTL The Transfer-of-Technology holder HBL Power Systems, Hyderabad.
