Muttayil Govinda Sankara Narayanan Passes Away

Muttayil Govinda Sankara Narayanan, popularly known as MGS Narayanan, a towering figure in Indian historiography, passed away at the age of 92.
Narayanan carved out a space for an academic understanding of Kerala's ancient past through his works. He was the member secretary and Chairman of the Indian Council of Historical Research (ICHR).
MGS also worked with the South Indian History Congress, the Epigraphical Society of India, the Place Name Society of India, the Rock Art Society of India and the Numismatic Society of South India.
An author of 200 books and articles, Narayanan has published 112 research papers alone in national and international journals, and participated in several workshops, and seminars, in India and abroad.

Former ISRO Chairman K. Kasturirangan Passes Away

Former ISRO Chairman and visionary scientist K. Kasturirangan passed away at the age of 84, in Bengaluru. He was one of the most respected figures in India's scientific and educational landscape.
K. Kasturirangan served as the fifth Chairman of ISRO from 1994 to 2003, concurrently holding the position of Secretary, Department of Space, for over nine years. His association with ISRO spanned four decades, during which he was at the helm of several landmark missions and pivotal institutional developments.
For his immense contributions, Kasturirangan was awarded all three of India's top civilian honours: Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan and Padma Vibhushan.

Pope Francis Passes Away

Pope Francis, the 266th pontiff of the Roman Catholic Church and a reformer known for his plain-spoken compassion and quiet revolution, died aged 88.
Francis was the first Jesuit, and the first Latin American, to ascend to the papacy. His election in 2013 marked a striking break from centuries of European dominance in the Church. Over his decade-long reign, he left an indelible mark on Catholicism — focusing on humility, inclusion, and a renewed mission to the margins.
Pope Francis will be buried in a single wooden and zinc coffin, in Santa Maria Maggiore — his favoured Roman basilica and the place he prayed before and after each overseas trip. This makes him the first pope in a century to be buried outside the Vatican Grottoes.

Former Malaysian Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, passed away at the age of 85.
Affectionately known as Pak Lah or Uncle Lah, Abdullah became Prime Minister in 2003, succeeding Mahathir Mohamad.
He served as Malaysia's fifth Prime Minister until 2009 when he was was forced to stand down after his ruling coalition's poor showing in general elections and following relentless criticism from Mahathir.
