Pharmed Ltd Chairman Emeritus Krishan Kumar Aurora Passes Away

  • Pharmed Limited and BioPlus Group announced that its chairman emeritus Krishan Kumar Aurora passed away at the age of 88.
  • Aurora's career spanned more than six decades. After graduating from Bombay University, he began his professional journey as an accountant with AF Fergusons, before moving on to Boots Pure Drug Co. (India) Ltd In 1961, he started his career with Smith Kline & French (India) Ltd, eventually rising to the role of Managing Director and later becoming International Vice President for Southeast Asia.
  • In 1990, Aurora took over Pharmed Limited, transforming it into a trusted and respected name in the Indian Pharmaceutical Industry.

Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh Passes Away

  • Former Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, a towering figure in Indian politics and economics, passed away at the age of 92. Dr. Singh, India's 13th Prime Minister, served the nation from 2004 to 2014 and played a pivotal role as Finance Minister during the economic liberalization of the 1990s. A distinguished economist, scholar, and statesman, his contributions have left an indelible mark on the trajectory of India's economic and political landscape.
  • Under his leadership, India achieved several historic milestones, including schemes like MGNREGA, the Right to Education (RTI), the National Food Security Act (NFSA) and Aadhaar.
  • He received the Padma Vibhushan, the second-highest civilian honour of India, in 1987.
  • He received the Order of King Abdulaziz, in 2010, the second-highest civilian honour of Saudi Arabia.
  • He was the fourth longest-serving Prime Minister after Jawaharlal Nehru, Indira Gandhi and Narendra Modi. A member of the Indian National Congress, Singh was the first Sikh Prime Minister of India.

Madath Thekkepat Vasudevan Nair Passes Away

  • M. T. Vasudevan Nair, a legendary writer from the southern Indian state of Kerala died at the age of 91.
  • Apart from being a celebrated writer, MT, as Nair was popularly known, was also an acclaimed film director and screenwriter.
  • MT leaves behind a legacy that spans over seven decades in literature and cinema. His works, often rooted in the agrarian life of Kerala's Valluvanad region, drew inspiration from his childhood along the banks of the Nila River (Bharathapuzha).
  • MT's debut novel, Naalukettu, earned him the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 1959 at the age of 23. He continued to garner accolades with works like Kaalam, which won the Kendra Sahitya Akademi Award in 1969, and Randamoozham in 1984, cementing his place as one of India's greatest writers.
  • He also made significant contributions to Malayalam cinema, directing seven films and scripting 45. His directorial debut, Nirmalyam (1973), won the National Award for Best Feature Film. His scripts, starting with Murappennu in 1965, became the backbone of several critically and commercially successful films.

Shyam Benegal, India's Parallel Cinema Pioneer, Passes Away

  • Shyam Benegal, who heralded the Indian parallel cinema movement in the 1970s and 1980s with a body of work known for its realism and social commentary, breaking away from the conventions of mainstream Indian cinema, died at the age of 90.
  • In his prolific career, Shyam Benegal made films on diverse issues, documentaries and television serials.
  • Shyam Benegal started his career as a copywriter, and made his first documentary film in Gujarati, 'Gher Betha Ganga' in 1962. His first four feature films 'Ankur' (1973), 'Nishant' (1975), 'Manthan' (1976) and 'Bhumika' (1977) made him a pioneer of the new wave film movement of that period.
  • He also served as the Director of the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) from 1980 to 1986.
  • In 1976, he was honoured by the Government of India with the Padma Shri, the fourth-highest civilian honour of the country, and in 1991, he was awarded Padma Bhushan, the third-highest civilian honour for his contributions in the field of arts.
  • In 2005, he was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India's highest award in the field of cinema.

Epigamia Co-founder Rohan Mirchandani Passes Away

  • Rohan Mirchandani, co-founder of the renowned yogurt brand Epigamia, passed away. He was 42.
  • Mirchandani, a graduate of NYU Stern and The Wharton School, founded Drums Food International in 2013. Under his leadership, the brand evolved from Hoki Poki ice cream into Epigamia, a household name in yogurt and other dairy products. With over 20,000 retail touchpoints across 30 cities, the company was preparing for a Middle East expansion by 2025-26.
