Former VP M. Venkaiah Naidu Elected President of Atal Smriti Nyas Society

  • Former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu was elected as the president of the Atal Smriti Nyas Society in New Delhi. At a meeting the official residence of, Atal Smriti Nyas Society elected him as the president of the Society in the place of Vijay Kumar Malhotra, who passed away. It was also decided that Mr. Naidu, as the President, will consult the others and constitute the members of the Governing body and Executive Committee to manage affairs of the Nyas.

PM Modi inaugurates Rashtra Prerna Sthal in Lucknow on Vajpayee’s birth anniversary

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated Rashtra Prerna Sthal in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, a national memorial dedicated to the life and ideals of former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The ceremony coincided with Vajpayee’s 101st birth anniversary, underscoring his enduring influence in Indian public life. Developed as a landmark memorial, the complex covers 65 acres and cost about 230 crore rupees. It houses bronze statues, including 65-foot figures, of Dr. Syama Prasad Mookerjee and Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya, alongside Vajpayee. A lotus-shaped museum spanning around 98,000 square feet complements the site, described as a permanent national asset to inspire leadership and national service.

Suspended TMC Leader Launches New Party

  • The former TMC leader Humayun Kabir launched the new party named 'Janata Unnayan Party' following his suspension from the Trinamool Congress over remarks in which he claimed that he would inaugurate a Babri Masjid in West Bengal's Murshidabad district.
  • Addressing a public meeting in Beldanga, Kabir named eight candidates whom his party will field in the 2026 Assembly elections in the state. He said he would himself contest from two seats, Rejinagar and Beldanga in Murshidabad district, and would soon release the names of other candidates.

  • The Indian Posts & Telecommunications Accounts and Finance Service (IP&TAFS), a Central Civil Service recruited through the Civil Services Examination conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), celebrated its 51st Foundation Year as Sanchar Vitta Lekha Diwas, and organised the Communication Finance Summit 2025.
  • Addressing the gathering, the Controller General of Communication Accounts (CGCA), Ms. Vandana Gupta, highlighted the 51-year institutional journey of IP&TAFS and its pivotal role in strengthening financial governance in India's telecommunications and postal sectors. She reflected on the transformative impact of economic reforms, liberalisation, and rapid technological advancements that reshaped the roles of the Department of Telecommunications and the Department of Posts.

India-Netherlands Sign MoU to Boost Trade and Investment Cooperation

  • India and the Netherlands announced the establishment of the India–Netherlands Joint Trade and Investment Committee (JTIC) with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding, marking a key step towards strengthening bilateral trade, investment, and economic cooperation.
  • The MoU was signed between the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of India and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of the Netherlands. The development was announced during the visit of Dutch Foreign Minister David van Weel to India and his bilateral meeting with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar.
  • The Joint Trade and Investment Committee will serve as a formal institutional mechanism for regular dialogue on trade and investment issues. It will review bilateral trade relations, promote two-way investments, address trade and investment barriers, and explore cooperation in sectors of mutual interest.

World Hindu Economic Forum in Mumbai on December 19-20

  • The World Hindu Economic Forum (WHEF) symposium convened at Hotel Grand Hyatt, Vakola, Mumbai on December 19-20 with the theme 'Innovation, Self-Reliance and Prosperity'.
  • State Chief Ministers, industrialists, policymakers, entrepreneurs and global investors from India as well as abroad converged to discuss strategies for growth, enterprise promotion and wealth creation rooted in Hindu civilizational values," said Vikas Banka, who is on the organising team.
  • Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis, Madhya Pradesh CM Mohan Yadav, Gujarat deputy CM Harsh Sanghavi, Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari and Piyush Goyal along with industrialists Sajjan Jindal and Vijay Shekhar Sharma, among others, participate.

Union Govt Releases over Rs. 94 Cr under 15th Finance Commission Grants to Uttarakhand

  • The Union Government has released over 94 Crore rupees under the 15th Finance Commission Grants to Rural Local Bodies of Uttarakhand. The Ministry of Panchayati Raj today informed that the second installment of United Grants, amounting to over 9,410 crore rupees for 13 District Panchayats, 95 Block Panchayats, and 7,784 thousand Gram Panchayats has been distributed. Additionally, over 13 lakh rupees, representing the withheld portion of the first installment of United Grants for the financial year of 2025-26, have been released to 15 Gram Panchayats. The Ministry of Finance subsequently releases these grants in two instalments each financial year.

Prime Minister Modi Inaugurates India’s 1st Nature-Themed Airport Terminal in Guwahati

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi International (LGBI) Airport terminal in Guwahati, billed as the largest terminal in Northeast India. Built at about ₹4,000 crore, the facility is expected to boost connectivity, tourism, and regional growth. The design draws on the region’s cultural and natural heritage, with interiors showcasing bamboo textures and rare orchids under the theme 'Bamboo Orchids'. The terminal is seven times larger than the previous facility and aims to accommodate rising passenger traffic and improve efficiency. The project aligns with broader infrastructure expansion plans for the Northeast and downstream economic opportunities.

PM Modi, WHO Chief Inaugurate WHO South-East Asia Regional Office in Delhi (20)

  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi, along with World Health Organisation Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, inaugurated the new WHO South-East Asia Regional Office complex in the national capital during the second WHO Global Summit on Traditional Medicine.
  • The newly inaugurated complex will also house the WHO India Country Office, marking a significant milestone in India's partnership with the World Health Organisation and strengthening regional and global health cooperation.
  • On the occasion, the Prime Minister released the WHO technical report on training in Yoga and unveiled the book "From Roots to Global Reach: 11 Years of Transformation in Ayush."

Centre reappoints SBI MD Ashwini Kumar Tewari till 2027

The Centre has reappointed Ashwini Kumar Tewari as Managing Director of State Bank of India for a two-year term, extending beyond his current tenure. A December 16, 2025 notification from the Department of Financial Services states that Tewari’s tenure will continue until his superannuation on 31 December 2027, or until further orders, whichever is earlier. Tewari became SBI MD in January 2021 after serving as MD and CEO of SBI Card. His appointment, alongside Swaminathan J, followed the Banks Board Bureau recommendations after interviews with candidates from SBI and other public sector banks.
  • Tewari reappointed SBI MD till 31 December 2027.
