CJI DY Chandrachud Recommends Justice Sanjiv Khanna as Next Chief Justice of India
The Chief Justice of India D. Y. Chandrachud, who is on the verge of retirement, recommended the name of the second senior judge of the Supreme Court, Justice Sanjiv Khanna, as the next Chief Justice of India.
CJI has written to the Union Government proposing Justice Khanna's name.
CJI Chandracuhd is demitting office on November 10, 2024. If the Union Government accepts CJI Chandrachud's recommendation, Justice Khanna will be the 51st Chief Justice of India. As CJI, Justice Khanna will have a term of nearly seven months till May 13, 2025.
Justice Khanna was elevated to the Supreme Court from the Delhi High Court in January 2019.

Supreme Court Collegium Recommends 4 Judicial Officers as Kerala High Court Judges
The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the names of four judicial officers for appointment as additional judges of the Kerala High Court.
As per the Collegium resolution, the judicial officers are: K. V. Jayakumar, Muralee Krishna S, Jobin Sebastian and P. V. Balakrishnan.
The names of these officers were recommended for elevation in May by the High Court Collegium. The Chief Minister and the Governor of Kerala concurred with the proposal.

CJI Discusses Ways to Boost Bilateral Judicial Cooperation on Bhutan Visit
Chief Justice of India D. Y. Chandrachud paid an official visit to Bhutan from October 7 to 10, and met the Chief Justice of Bhutan, Lyonpo Chogyal Dago Rigdzin. They discussed ways to strengthen bilateral judicial cooperation.
The two Chief Justices presided over the signing of four Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs), aimed at enhancing judicial and legal cooperation between India and Bhutan.
These included the signing of an MoU between the two Supreme Courts on enhancing judicial cooperation; renewal of MoU between the National Judicial Academy, Bhopal and Bhutan National Legal Institute on collaboration in legal education and capacity building between the two institutions; renewal of MoU between the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bengaluru and the JSW School of Law on legal education and research; and signing of an MoU between the Indian Council of Arbitration and the Bhutan Alternative Dispute Resolution Centre on collaboration to strengthen and promote arbitration and mediation.

The Central government cleared the appointment of Justice Manoj Kumar Tiwari as the acting Chief Justice of Uttarakhand High Court.
Justice Tiwari took over as acting Chief Justice upon retirement of incumbent Chief Justice Ritu Bahri on October 10.

Central Government Notifies Appointment of Three Lawyers as Gujarat High Court Judges
The Central government cleared the appointment of three advocates as judges of the Gujarat High Court.
The three advocates are: Sanjeev Jayendra Thaker, Deeptendra Narayan Ray and Maulik Jitendra Shelat.
The Supreme Court Collegium comprising the Chief Justice of India (CJI) D. Y. Chandrachud, Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justice B. R. Gavai had recommended the names in August 2024.
