IFFI 2024 Honours Australia's Rich Film Legacy

The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting announced Australia as the 'Country of Focus' for the 55th edition of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI), scheduled to take place in Goa from November 20 to 28, 2024. This special recognition celebrates Australia's dynamic contributions to the global film industry, showcasing its rich storytelling traditions, vibrant cinema culture, and innovative cinematic techniques.
Founded in 1952, the International Film Festival of India is one of Asia's most significant film festivals.
It serves as a platform for filmmakers worldwide to present their works and engage in meaningful exchanges.
Held annually in Goa, IFFI attracts directors, producers, actors, and film enthusiasts, fostering an appreciation of world cinema.

India's Linguistic Heritage Celebrated at Pravasi Parichay 2024 in Riyadh

The 2024 edition of the Embassy's flagship diaspora engagement event, Pravasi Parichay, was inaugurated by Suhel Ajaz Khan, the Ambassador of India to Saudi Arabia, at the Embassy Auditorium in Riyadh. This cultural celebration kicked off with a specially curated event titled 'Classical Languages of India,' designed to showcase the country's rich linguistic diversity.
Launched in 2023, Pravasi Parichay quickly became a significant cultural celebration for the Indian diaspora in Saudi Arabia.

Discovery of 16th Century Copper Plates in Tiruvallur District

A significant archaeological discovery was made at the Sri Singeeswarar temple in Mappedu village, Tiruvallur district in Tamil Nadu, where a set of copper plate inscriptions dating back to the 16th Century CE were found. During a routine check of the temple's lockers, overseen by the Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR and CE) Department, officials uncovered two leaves of copper plates strung together with a ring featuring the seal of the Vijayanagara Kingdom. The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) confirmed that the inscriptions, engraved in 1513 during the reign of King Krishnadevaraya, are written in Sanskrit using the Nandinagari script.
The Nandinagari script, a variant of the Nagari script, was predominantly used in South India from the 8th to the 19th centuries for writing manuscripts and inscriptions. It is characterised by its left-to-right writing style and holds historical importance in understanding the linguistic and cultural practices of the region during the Vijayanagara period. The discovery of the copper plates adds to the historical narrative of this influential kingdom and its impact on South Indian heritage.

First-Ever Coal Gallery Inaugurated at National Science Centre, New Delhi

Union Culture and Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat and Minister of State for Coal and Mines Satish Chandra Dubey inaugurated the first-ever coal gallery at the National Science Centre in New Delhi. The exhibition, titled "Black Diamond – Unveiling the Depths," highlights coal's journey from its formation to its essential role in modern energy production. Through immersive displays, the gallery educates visitors on coal extraction, mining technologies, environmental practices, and future innovations in sustainable energy.
The gallery dispels misconceptions about coal mining, highlighting technological advancements and environmental responsibility. It provides a historical narrative of coal's role in India's development while inspiring innovation in energy production.

Union Minister Virendra Kumar Inaugurates the 21st Divya Kala Mela at Jabalpur

Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment, Virendra Kumar inaugurated the 21st Divya Kala Mela at Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh. The event organised by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (Divyangjan) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, through the National Divyangjan Finance and Development Corporation (NDFDC), will concluded on October 27, 2024.
The mela features dedicated stalls and exhibitions for Divyang artists to showcase their creative prowess and offer a glimpse into the incredible artistic expressions of this community.
