Pondicherry Heritage Festival 2025

The 11^th edition of the Pondicherry Heritage Festival was held with a vibrant display of culture, history, and community spirit in Puducherry's Tamil Quarter. The event was marked by the 'Veedhi Vilayattu' (Street Games). Children had the chance to experience and engage in traditional games from the past, while the community came together to celebrate their heritage. The festival brought the streets to life with traditional activities, food, and fun, successfully engaging more than 250 children and numerous residents.

Haryana Declares Two Harappan Sites as Protected Archaeological Monuments

The Haryana government officially declared two Harappan civilization sites located in Bhiwani district — Mitathal and Tighrana — as protected archaeological sites and monuments. These sites, dating back over 4,400 years, hold immense historical and cultural value, shedding light on the evolution of early agricultural societies, town planning, craft industries, and trade during the Harappan and post-Harappan periods. The sites have now been brought under legal protection through a notification issued by the Haryana Heritage and Tourism Department under the Haryana Ancient and Historical Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1964. The move aims to safeguard these ancient settlements from encroachment and damage, with fencing and security arrangements to be implemented.

Odisha's Rath Yatra, Bali Yatra Find Place in Centre's Intangible Cultural Heritage List

Getting a step closer towards securing the UNESCO Intangible Heritage tag, Odisha's Rath Yatra and Bali Jatra were included in the National Inventory of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) of Sangeet Natak Akademi under Ministry of Culture.
Terming the development as a proud moment for Odisha, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi hoped for the UNESCO recognition for both the festivals.

Sarhul Festival 2025

Sarhul is the festival of the New Year celebrated in the state of Jharkhand by the tribal communities as part of the local Sarna religion. It is celebrated in the Hindu month of Chaitra.
It is also a celebration of the beginning of spring. The word ''Sarhul'' is connected with tree worship. It is a festival where nature is venerated.
In Jharkhand, Sarhul is a public holiday. In the year 2025, it fell on April 1.
Sarhul is a well-known celebration observed by several tribes in the Jharkhand region. Worshipping trees or the Saal tree is what the Sarhul word implies. The festival starts with the worship of trees and other natural elements. The majority of agricultural activities, like planting seeds, are initiated by the locals following this celebration.

The 37th Kathak Mahotsav 2025 Concludes

The 37th Kathak Mahotsav 2025, organised by Kathak Kendra, New Delhi, a constituent unit of Sangeet Natak Akademi, concluded successfully in New Delhi. This six-day festival was a landmark event, featuring the world's first-ever Kathak Literary Festival along with seminars, exhibitions, and captivating dance performances. The festival showcased all major Kathak gharanas—Lucknow, Jaipur, Banaras, and Raigarh—through performances by distinguished artists. The event also focused on royal patronage, evolution of Kathak bols, and literary documentation, making it an unforgettable celebration of both the artistic and intellectual aspects of Kathak.
