Stand-Up India Scheme Marks 9 Years

  • The Stand-Up India Scheme completed nine years since its launch on April 5, 2016. Initiated by the Ministry of Finance under the banner of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the scheme was designed to empower Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and women entrepreneurs by facilitating bank loans for setting up new enterprises.
  • Over the years, the Stand-Up India Scheme has evolved from a funding initiative into a transformative movement that has nurtured entrepreneurial dreams, generated employment, and contributed to inclusive economic growth. Since its inception, the scheme has seen a steady increase in sanctioned loan amounts—from Rs. 16,085.07 crore as of March 31, 2019, to a remarkable Rs. 61,020.41 crore by March 17, 2025. This growth underscores the expanding outreach and impact of the scheme across the nation.

The Assam Launches Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan

  • The Assam government launched its largest women entrepreneurship support initiative, the Mukhya Mantri Mahila Udyamita Abhiyan, to promote self-employment among women. This ambitious scheme, launched by Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma in Biswanath district, aims to empower 30 lakh women by providing seed capital of Rs. 10,000 each to help them establish or expand their micro-businesses. The scheme follows a multi-tiered financial assistance model, encouraging sustainable entrepreneurship and economic independence for women across the state.

Maiyan Samman Yojana in J'khand Extended for Non-Aadhaar Beneficiaries

  • The Jharkhand government announced that under the Mukhyamantri Maiyan Samman Yojana, women whose bank accounts are not linked with Aadhaar will still receive a lump sum payment of Rs. 7,500 for the months of January, February, and March 2025.
  • The provision permitting payments without Aadhaar linkage is temporary and will be valid only until March 2025.
  • To continue receiving assistance beyond this period, beneficiaries must link their bank accounts with Aadhaar and ensure they have a single account.
  • The Jharkhand state cabinet, led by Chief Minister Hemant Soren, approved this amendment during a meeting where 18 proposals were sanctioned.
  • The Mukhyamantri Maiya Samman Yojana is a welfare initiative launched by the Jharkhand government to provide financial assistance to economically disadvantaged women in the state.

Haryana Government Launches Tax Dispute Settlement Scheme for Small Traders

  • The Haryana government brought in a one-time tax settlement scheme, aimed at providing some tax relaxation and waiving off of penalties for small traders.
  • Over and above the tax exemption and penalty waive off, the state government under Nayab Singh Saini decided that it would exempt 60 per cent of outstanding amount (less than Rs. 10 lakh) that is due for payments.
  • This one-time settlement scheme will come into effect starting April 7, the Chief Minister announced.

National Youth Parliament Scheme

  • The government launched a revamped version of the National Youth Parliament Scheme (NYPS) web portal, known as NYPS 2.0, aimed at broadening citizen participation in the mock parliamentary initiative, the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs said.
  • First introduced in February 2019, the National Youth Parliament Scheme (NYPS) seeks to promote democratic values among India's youth by providing a platform for engaging in structured debates on social, political, and governance issues. The scheme allows participants to simulate parliamentary proceedings, mirroring the functioning of the Indian Parliament.
  • The key objectives of NYPS 2.0 are to strengthen the roots of democracy, inculcate discipline and tolerance for diverse views, enable the student community and citizens to understand parliamentary procedures and enhance their knowledge of the Government's functioning and Constitutional values, and foster a sense of living life in a democratic way.
