World Coconut Day

Celebrated annually on September 2, World Coconut Day highlights the significance of coconut in our lives and promotes sustainable farming practices. This day is dedicated to raising awareness about the diverse uses of coconuts and encouraging their consumption worldwide.
World Coconut Day, first celebrated in 2009, was established by the Asian and Pacific Coconut Community (APCC), an intergovernmental organisation under the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific.
The APCC, representing 19 coconut-producing countries in the Asia-Pacific region, chose September 2 for this annual observance to commemorate the organisation's founding in 1969. Each year, the International Coconut Community sets a theme for the day which aims at highlighting the importance and health benefits related to coconuts.
The theme for this year's (2024) World Coconut Day is 'Coconut for a Circular Economy: Building Partnership for Maximum Value', which focuses on promoting sustainability and partnerships in the coconut industry.

National Nutrition Week

National Nutrition Week in India is observed from September 1 to 7 every year. This week provides a platform for various health-related activities and campaigns aimed at improving the nutritional status of the population. During this period, the government, non-governmental organisations, healthcare professionals, and educational institutions organise events and programs to spread awareness about the importance of nutrition.
In India, the Ministry of Women and Child Development started observing National Nutrition Week in 1982. According to the Press Information Bureau India, "National Nutrition Week (1-7 September), initiated by the Food and Nutrition Board in 1982, is an annual event of immense significance.
The theme for National Nutrition Week 2024 is 'Nutritious Diets for Everyone'.

Hari Merdeka (Malaysia National Day)

Malaysia Independence Day, also known as the Merdeka Day, is celebrated on August 31 every year.
This year's (2024) event marked His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim's first attendance at the National Day since he was installed as the 17th King of Malaysia in July.
The theme for National Day 2024 is 'Malaysia Madani: Jiwa Merdeka'.

International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances

The International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances, observed annually on August 30, sheds light on a horrific practice that continues to plague societies worldwide. Enforced disappearances, a tool of oppression and terror, involve the arrest or abduction of individuals by state actors, followed by a refusal to acknowledge their whereabouts or fate.
The official theme for the International Day of the Victims of Enforced Disappearances is 'Honouring an Invisible Struggle'.

National Small Industry Day

India observes National Small Industry Day every year on August 30 to recognise the role played by small-scale industries (SSIs) in the nation's economic landscape. The day highlights the contributions of small industries to India's growth, employment generation, and innovation, underscoring their status as the backbone of the country's economy.
The day was first observed on August 30, 2001, following a government decision made in the preceding year to promote the growth of small industries through a range of initiatives and policies. This included the launch of a comprehensive policy package aimed at strengthening the small-scale industry, marking a significant moment that led to the annual celebration of the National Small Industry Day.

Telugu Language Day

Telugu Language Day, celebrated annually on August 29, honours the rich heritage and cultural significance of the Telugu language, one of the classical languages of India. The day is also a tribute to the life and work of one of the most revered figures in Telugu literature, Gidugu Venkata Ramamurthy. A pioneer of the language reform movement, Ramamurthy's contributions have left an indelible mark on the Telugu literary world.
The Telugu Language Day is celebrated every year on August 29 coinciding with the birth anniversaries of the Telugu poet Gidugu Venkata Ramamurthy. The Andhra Pradesh government declared August 29 as Telugu Language Day in 1966.

National Sports Day

India celebrates National Sports Day every year on August 29, which is a special occasion dedicated to marking the spirit of sports in India. Apart from India's achievements in sports, this day emphasises the importance of sports to keep us healthy and active.
The Indian government officially announced to celebrate National Sports Day in 2012 marking August 29 as a day to recognise sports excellence. The date was selected to pay tribute to Major Dhyan Chand, also known as the 'Wizard of Hockey'. Major Dhyan Chand was born on August 29, 1905, in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. His career spanned from 1926 to 1948, when he played 185 matches for India scoring over 400 goals. His excellent performance brought the golden period for Indian hockey as he led India to win three gold medals in 1928, 1932 and 1936.

International Day Against Nuclear Tests

Every year on August 29, the world observes the International Day Against Nuclear Tests. This significant day serves as a global reminder of the devastating effects of nuclear weapons testing and the urgent need for a world free from the threat of nuclear destruction. Since the dawn of the nuclear age in 1945, over 2,000 nuclear tests have been conducted, leaving a legacy of environmental damage and human suffering.
On December 2, 2009, the 64th session of the United Nations General Assembly unanimously adopted resolution 64/35, declaring August 29 as the International Day against Nuclear Tests. This resolution was a significant step towards raising global awareness about the effects of nuclear weapon test explosions.
